SUBJECT PREPARATION FOR THE TYPHOON 'ODETTE"

ln view of the forecast of PAG-ASA on the entry of Typhoon Odette in the Philippine
Area of Responsibility presumably to have higher intensity and gustiness, all shipping
companies/ operators are advised to take proper precautionary safety measures in their
areas and strictly comply with the existing policies and advisories on movement of
vessels to prevent occurrence of maritime incidents.

To this effect, all are reminded of the following precautionary measures to be observed
to prevent anchor dragging in heaw weather:

1. Reduce wind area ofthe vessel as much as possible;


2. Use ballast to increase the draft of the vessel:
3. Reduce trim by stern as much as possible;
4. Trim by head and increase it if possible. This is to move
the wind center back
and the hydrodynamic center forward to reduce deviation of the vessel and
improve the vessel's stability; and
5. Observance of up to date weather forecast.

The MARINA R.O. Vll Enforcement Personnel are instructed to monitor the
implementation of the above in accordance with applicable rules and regulations
