Ms. Gabbie Stasson

Deputy Organizing Director
Democratic Party of Wisconsin
15 N Pinckney St.
Madison, WI 53703

Dear Ms. Stasson:

I am a third-year senior at the University of Wisconsin- Madison studying history and political
science. Your job posting for a field organizing intern caught my eye because I have always been
interested in engaging with the community politically. For example, in 2020, I volunteered to do
voter registration drives leading up to the presidential election. Thus, I have seen the value and
importance that democratic rights have on the fabric of our nation. As a result, I appreciate the
DPW's dedication to democratic values because they are my values as well. The importance of
democratic values like the right to vote fairly and freely are why I am interested in this internship
position. In my opinion, the Democratic Party is the most effective organization to prevent and
repeal barbarous and restrictive voting laws that have followed the 2020 election. Given that, I
would be fully committed to securing the election of the Democratic candidates across the ballot
including Tony Evers and the subsequent Senate nominee.

As I indicated earlier I already have experience as a part of a political campaign in 2020. As a

volunteer, I reached out to prospective voters and helped register them over the phone or through
text. The experience helped me develop my communication skills and gave me a greater
understanding of the political process. I think this experience would make it easier for me to
adjust to a working environment with which I am already somewhat familiar.

In addition to my experience as a volunteer, I have extensive experience interacting with those

who are different than myself. I grew up going to school at the Milwaukee Public Schools and as
a result, I have seen and heard many different experiences throughout the years. As a white male,
I was the minority in most situations at school and that helped me better understand the
experiences of my classmates and respect the social and cultural differences that make us
stronger as a nation. It also helped me realize the injustices that underprivileged groups in this
nation experience. I saw the consequences of it every day when I went to school and it made me
realize that political action and empowerment are the ways to accomplish those goals.
My life experiences as well as my schooling have me uniquely interested in this opportunity. I
can bring to the table the communication skill, prior experience, and cultural competency that I
am sure can help the Democratic Candidates across the ballot in 2022.

Sincerely,

Austin Straub
