PROCEDURE

Introduction ( 3 min.):
Attention Grabber:
 
-       Class discussion 
 
Assessment of Prior Knowledge:
 
 Students have learned briefly about growth mindset in health class
 Students have discussed “positive self-talk”
 Students understand goal setting 
 
Expectations for Learning and Behavior:
 
-Students will raise their hand before speaking or asking questions
-Students will listen and not talk while others are speaking
-Students will listen intently to instructions and follow them 
-Students will participate fully in the lesson
-Students will cooperate well with others
 
Transition to Body:
 
 “Hands on top, that means stop” to get students attention
 ALL students will come to the front to sit down 

Body (30 mins):


Learning Activity #1:  15 mins What are the students doing?
Direct Instruction Can Do Activity   
  -Listening to instructions and looking at me
 Read book “Theo’s Mood” -Mimicking the steps I am demonstrating for the
 Go over different moods in the book  art project
-Asking questions if unsure on something
Differentiation 
 -        Ensure R and G understand instructions fully- check-in Sponge Activity:

  -Students can work on one of the following
Learning Activity #2: 15 minutes  activities if they finish early:
1. Reading
Direct Instruction: Class Discussion  2. Doodling 
 
 Students will listen to a brief discussion on what
moods are okay to feel (ALL)
 Students will discuss how it is okay to feel sad/
mad/anxious / stressed/ upset/ grumpy
 Students will participate in a social story activity on
how to deal with harder moods/ emotions
 Students will view a social story created by me as an
example, and talk about it 
 Students will then create their own scoial story
comic showing how they deal with difficult moods/
emotions

Assessment/Differentiation: 
 
-        Ensure R and G understand instructions fully- check-
in with them 

Transition to Closure
-        Provide students with the signal to stop what they are
doing and listen to the next instructions 
-        Let students know it is time to clean up
