Reaction Paper

It is well known that the development of any country depends on the quality of the

education, that’s why it could be said that the government, technology, and teachers play a key

role being permanently concerned on how to ensure the access to education for all citizens as a

fundamental right and not as a privilege for a minority. In terms of development this can be seen

as the best way to look for the ongoing progress in Colombia and a better future for our children.

For decades, violence in all its forms and natural disasters have prevented people to

access to education. Colombian government has been working in different manners to focus on

education as a right and not as a privilege at service of moneyed people. As we can see, the

National Government has adopted an active role in the searching for solutions that allow people,

especially those who live in the conflict areas and areas exposed to natural disasters to access to

education and dream of a better future, by implementing through the Ministry of Education

programs focused on becoming education a reality for everyone. This is evident in programs

such as "The School Going to the Child" and "Escuela Nueva"; this programs are developed after

a conscious analysis on social, cultural, and economic conditions in every region of the country.

Besides this, the support given to initiatives such as educative credits, scholarships, subsidies and

free education which end up opening opportunities for all.

It is evident that the new millennium has revolutionized education in Colombia and

technology has played a key role in becoming an important tool for making possible access to

education for everyone and from anywhere. The arrival of virtual education has been seen as a

great opportunity especially for low-income people in rural areas and people with not enough

time to move to school or universities. Additional to this, it is necessary to create the optimum

conditions to make sure that technology is a free-access tool and this way to reduce partially the

college dropout.

Teachers must be conscious of the importance of learning and teaching a second language

to be more competitive in a globalized world that demands high standards of communication

using a universal business language. Being bilingual allows people to broaden their horizons in

the professional, personal and work fields since they have a great advantage over those who do

not master a second language. At the same time, it permits to be connected with the rest of the

world.

Finally, education in Colombia has been revolutionized not only by the arrival of new

technologies but also by the compromises acquired by the government in terms of creating

different alternatives that allow people in disadvantaged conditions to have access to a high-

quality education. On the other hand, it’s very important to recognize the fact that this revolution

in education requires a compromise of all of us to get the expected success for ensuring the

development of our country.
