THE PINK PEN

One day, Sam found a shiny pink pen in his garden. He quickly picked it up and took it home. Sam
always loved drawing. He thought of drawing something with his new pen. A chocolate came to his
mind. So he drew a chocolate with his new pen. In a few seconds, the picture started to glow and a
chocolate appeared right before him. Some understood that he had found a magic pen that made
things real. He kept a secret to himself. Soon he started gifting his friends little things and got famous
soon.

Alex, his classmate, wondered how Sam could give many things to his friends. He wanted to know
how it was possible.

To know the truth, one day, Alex sneaked into Sam’s room to see what was happening. He saw Sam
drawing a toy car and very soon the toy car appeared before him. Alex came to know about the
magic pen. He took the pen as soon as Sam left his room.

Alex was very happy to have Sam’s magical pen taken home. He started drawing the first thing that
came to his mind- a well. All of a sudden, there was a well in his room. He realized he can’t have a
well in his room. Soon the well started overflowing. The house was getting filled with water.

Alex did not know what to do and decided to get Sam’s help. He ran to Sam and asked to forgive him
and cried for his help. Sam thought of an idea and they went back to Alex’s house. He took an eraser
and erased the drawing. Sam’s idea worked and the well disappeared. Alex returned back the pen to
Sam and asked for forgiveness.

THE HOLY SNAKE

Long ago, in a village, lived a poor farmer named Vishnu. He worked very hard in his field but could
not earn much. His son, Somu, was always asking his father for more money. But his father would
say “ be satisfied with what you have, my son”.

One day, Vishnu finished work in his field and was very tired. He was resting near a rock. Suddenly,
he noticed a snake coming towards the rock. On seeing Vishnu, the snake coiled and sat up with
raised head. It looked so calm and peaceful. So Vishnu thought it to be a God. He brought a bowl of
milk from his house, did prayers and offered it to the snake.

Next morning, when Vishnu came to collect the bowl, he found a gold coin in it. He was so surprised
and happy. “I am sure it is a Holy snake” Vishnu thought. He went and told about the snake to his
family. Every day it became a practice for him to offer prayers and milk to the snake which sits on
the rock. And every morning he got a gold coin in the bowl. This made Vishnu a rich man.

Once, when Vishnu was not in the village, his son Somu had come to keep milk for the snake which
was sitting on the rock. As usual, after some time, there was a gold coin in the bowl. Somu thought “
I think there is a treasure of gold under this rock. If I kill the snake and remove the rock, I will get all
the gold.” Somu found a stick and tried to kill the snake. But the snake bit Somu and managed to
escape. He immediately ran to his house in pain. He fell very ill.

When Vishnu returned, his wife told him everything. “I always told you to be satisfied with what you
have” said Vishnu angrily to his son. Then he ran towards the holy snake. With folded hands, he
asked for forgiveness and offered milk to the snake.

But this time the snake did not accept the milk. “I spared your son’s life because of your kindness. I
shall not help you one more time.” Said the snake and disappeared.

The farmer felt very bad and thanked it for whatever it has done so far. He lived with what he had
and worked harder.

M sound story- Simeli Mountain

SIMELI MOUNTAIN

There were once two brothers, one rich and the other poor. The rich one gave nothing to the poor
one. The poor brother was selling corn for his living. Often, he had no food for his wife and children.

One day, when he was passing through the forest with his barrow, he saw a great plain and dry
mountain which he had never seen it before. He stood still and stared at the mountain. While he was
standing, he saw twelve great wild men coming towards him. He knew that they were robbers. So,
he pushed his barrow into the bushes, climbed up a tree and waited to see what would happen. The
twelve men went near the mountain and said “Semsi Mountain (2), Open up. Immediately, the
mountain opened up and the twelve men went inside and as soon as they were in, the mountain
closed.

After a short time, it opened again and the twelve men came out and said “Semsi mountain (2), Shut
yourself”. Then the mountain closed and there was no longer any entrance to be seen. The men left
from there. When they all left, the poor man got down from the tree. He wanted to know what is
inside the mountain. So he went near the mountain and said “Semsi mountain (2), Open up”.  The
mountain opened to him also. He went inside and the whole mountain was full of silver, gold, pearls
and sparkling jewels heaped up like corn. The poor man didn’t know what to do, whether to take it
home or not. At last, he filled his pocket with gold coins and he left the pearls and precious jewels.
He came out and said “Semsi mountain (2), Shut yourself”. The mountain closed and he went home
with his barrow.

The poor brother lived happily. He could now buy food for his wife and children with his gold. He
helped the poor and did well to everyone.  When the money was over, he went to his rich brother,
borrowed a measure which was attached with a basket and went to the mountain to bring some
more gold coins. He again and again repeated this by borrowing the measure from his brother.

The rich brother had a doubt about why his brother has been borrowing the measure. He thought of
a cunning trick and pasted some tamarind at the bottom of the measure. When he got his measure
back, a piece of gold was stuck at the bottom. He asked his poor brother “What have you been
measuring in the basket?” “Corn and barley” replied the poor man. The rich brother showed him the
gold piece and threatened him to take to court if he doesn’t tell the truth.

The poor man told him everything. The rich brother ran to the mountain immediately and shouted
“Semsi Mountain (2), Open up. The mountain opened and he went inside. He was amazed to see the
treasure. He stuffed his pockets with gold and grabbed as much he could carry. He was too happy
with his new wealth that he forgot the name of the mountain. He shouted “Simeli Mountain (2),
Open up. The mountain never opened up.

After long time, the mountain opened and the thieves came in and laughed at seeing him caught
inside. They told him “Do you think we didn’t know that you had been here twice before? You are
caught now and you cannot go out now ever”. The rich man cried “It was not me. It was my brother
who had come here earlier”. But the robbers were not ready to listen to his words and they chopped
his head off.

THE FLOWERING TREE

Once upon a time, in a kingdom, lived a king who had a daughter named Seema. In the same
Kingdom lived Kumudha with her mother and her sister, Meera. They were very very poor.
Kumudha's mother would work very hard all day to earn some money. This made their daughters
very sad. Kumudha told Meera that she could help mother in a way. She told her that a priest had
given her a boon a long time back where he could turn into a flowering tree by reciting mantras. All
they need is two mugs of water. Kumudha then explained to her sister to pour the first mug of water
on her after she chants her mantra. Soon, she would turn into a tree with beautiful fragrant flowers.

Meera has to pluck the flowers very carefully without breaking the branches or leaves. After plucking
all, Meera has to pour the next mug of water over the tree, by which Kumudha would again turn into
a human. Meera agreed to do so.

Kumudha went to a garden and sat to recite her mantras. Meera poured the first mug over
Kumudha. At once, she changed into a big tree with beautiful flowers. Meera plucked the flowers
very carefully without hurting a branch or a leaf. She was able to fill two baskets of flowers. Once
done, she put the 2nd mug of water over the tree. The tree became a human again. Kumudha was
back as human.

Kumudha thought of taking the beautiful flowers to the king's palace and selling them there. The
king's daughter, Seema, loved the flowers and its fragrance very much and got it from Kumudha. She
gave a few gold coins in return. This happened for the next few days. Kumudha also came out of
poverty.

Seema wondered from where Kumudha gets fragrant flowers every day. One day, she followed
Kumudha secretly and was surprised to see her turning into a tree. She wanted to show this miracle
to her friends. Seema met Kumudha with her friends and ordered her to turn into a tree. Kumudha
was shocked to know that Seema found her secret. She had no choice but to agree to the order.
Kumudha explained the procedure and told Seema to be very careful while plucking the flowers by
not hurting the branches, as it might wound her. Seema agreed to everything. Kumudha sat and
started her mantras while Seema poured the first mug of water. Soon Kumudha turned into a tree.
Seema and her friends were amazed to see this miracle. Suddenly it started to rain heavily. Seema
forgot what Kumudha had said and started to pluck flowers in a hurry. She broke the branches and
stems. Then she hurriedly poured the second mug of water over the tree and ran away.

Kumudha turned into a human but had wounds and bruises as Seema had hurt the branches. She
somehow reached her house with pain and had to rest for many days. Knowing all this, the priest got
angry with Seema for hurting Kumudha. He appeared before Seema and cursed her that she would
turn into a stone anytime even if a drop of rain water hit her. Seema ran to Kumudha for help. She
felt very sorry looking at the wounded Kumudha. She realized her mistake and pleaded with
Kumudha for forgiveness. Kumudha forgave her and requested the priest to remove her curse. The
priest accepted it and Kumudha and Seema became very good friends.

THE MAGIC HAT

There was a fisherman who loved his boat. On one cloudy day, he went into the sea to catch fish. But
his bad luck made him lose his boat due to a storm. He somehow reached the shore swimming. He
was very sad about losing his boat and cried to his wife about what they would do for a living. His
wife told him to get a tree trunk from the forest and build a new boat out of it. The fisherman left for
the forest immediately and started looking for the tree trunk. Searching for it, he got lost in the
woods. It was also raining heavily. Luckily, he spotted a house at a distance and decided to get help.

In the house lived an old couple. They let the fisherman inside and let him rest till the rain stops. The
fisherman was very hungry. He asked the couple if he could get something to eat. The couple told
him to rest for a few minutes and that they will be back with dinner very soon. Saying this, the old
couple entered the room and locked the door. The fisherman was eager to find out what they were
preparing for dinner. He secretly looked through the window and was shocked to see something
strange. The couple wore a hat and very soon they vanished. The fisherman thought that the hat had
magical powers. He saw another hat lying there. He wore it and ordered the hat to follow the
couple.

The hat led him to a King's kitchen where there was a big spread of delicious food. He also saw the
couple stealing food in one corner. He hid secretly under a table for the couple to leave the place.
Once they left, he happily ate to his full and fell asleep. Soon, the soldiers caught him entering the
king's place and tied him to a tree trunk.

The king ordered the soldiers to chop his head and ask the fisherman for his one last wish. The
fisherman cleverly thought of an idea. He replied to the king that he wished to wear his hat one last
time. The King accepted his silly wish and let him wear it once. He had his hat on and quickly ordered
the hat to take him to his home. The fisherman vanished and reached the front of his home still tied
to the trunk. His wife was glad to see him back with a trunk, but was wondering why he was tied to
it. The fisherman told her the whole thing about the magic hat. The wife was happy to get the magic
hat and took it inside her home.
