MECHATRONICS

Definition
It is a multidisciplinary branch since it comprises several different branches or
disciplines. They are located between them. Electronic Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Computer Engineering and Control Engineering. The alliance of these
different areas makes it possible to think of a product in a different way from its design to
its recycling and maintenance. Keeping in mind the purpose of designing, testing and
manufacturing new and more efficient machines.
This offers us the power to carry out and cover areas such as industrial automation.

Mechatronics in the complete industrial automation process

Observing the area of knowledge of a mechatronics engineer, this can make use of
computerized and electromechanical systems for the control of machinery and industrial
processes. One of the elements that allow to automate and control processes are the
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) or programmable automatons. A PLC is a small
industrial computer designed to work in industrial environments and automatically control
electromechanical processes. PLCs are capable of controlling everything from small
workstations to entire industrial processes based on data they receive from digital and
analog sensors and switches.
These systems allow factories and industrial processes to be automated,
allowing continuous mass production 24/7, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This improves productivity and reduces assembly times.

STEPS FOR AN AUTOMATION

It has to be understood that workload automation technology is very advanced and can
optimize the operation of companies of all sizes, in any industry. Even so, many
companies have not yet exploited the full potential of automation. ¿What is it that prevents
them from doing it? Many times, these companies understand the value of automation, but
get stuck somewhere along the way to full-fledged enterprise automation.

The transition from manual processes to comprehensive workload automation typically

goes through several phases: fully manual operations, manual scripting, piecemeal
solutions, and finally consolidating business planning tasks.
6

MANUAL PROCESSES
All companies start with manual processes and let employees do the work that may
sound more tempting than finding and implementing the right automation solution.

Las ventajas de la automatización

 Saves time and resources, freeing up employees to work on more important
projects.
 Being able to schedule tasks means that those tasks can be executed at night, or
on weekends, without the need for human supervision.
 Most companies move to the next stage: scripting or programming.
7

DEVELOPMENT OF MANUAL SCRIPTS

AND INTERNAL SOLUTIONS
At this stage, the company has realized that there are certain tasks that must be
automated by taking the solution of buying machinery, so they have dedicated their
engineers to the creation of custom scripts. Each of these scripts is tied to a specific
process. Developing custom scripts is a small step on the road to automation. These
scripts and solutions developed in-house and can help you resolve issues.
8

FRAGMENTED AND UNEQUAL

SOLUTIONS

At this stage, a company begins to use robust and reliable automation tools, which are
not integrated with each other. For example, Cron is a popular task scheduler because it is
developed on UNIX, and Windows Task Scheduler schedules tasks on Windows servers.
These tools are suitable for managing basic task schedules on their respective systems.
However, for many companies it is common to run both UNIX and Windows, among
others.

In some cases, companies at this stage have already invested in an enterprise task
scheduler to meet their specific needs, but aren't using it to automate the rest of the tasks
they should be automating. These companies are headed in the right direction, but they
haven't realized the full potential of automation and haven't consolidated their business
processes under a single, centralized workload automation solution.
9

CONSOLIDATED BUSINESS PLANNING

In most of the later stages, the company has an enterprise task planning tool in place
and uses it to automate processes across all systems and applications within the
company. With a comprehensive load automation tool.

Arriving at this step, the engineer looks for new and better ways to automate processes
in the company. For example, this team can figure out how to optimize topics like:
• Payroll
• Reports generation
• Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
• Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL)
The more processes you can consolidate under a single workload automation solution.
In total, all these processes already taken as companies begin to have an exponential
growth.
