Prayer of the Faithful

Priest: In his transfiguration, Jesus shows us a foretaste of the glory which

can only be ours permanently if we follow him on the road of sacrifice
and self-giving. In need of his strength, we pray: Lord, be our light
and our strength.

Leader: For the Church the people of God: Lord, be her guide as she faces
misunderstanding and trials for being true to your word. We pray:
All: Lord, be our light and our strength.

Leader: For our religious and political leaders: Lord, give them courage and
perseverance in doing what is right, especially when it proves difficult
and unpopular. We pray:
All: Lord, be our light and our strength.

Leader: For young people: Lord, let them come and listen to you instead of
escaping from life’s problems by resorting to drugs, sex, and bad
company. We pray:
All: Lord, be our light and our strength.

Leader: For the victims of poverty and justice: Lord, comfort them, and
inspire hearts and hands willing to help them. We pray

All: Lord, be our light and our strength.

Leader: For our beloved dead: Lord, give them the heavenly inheritance
together with the angels and saints. We pray:
All: Lord, be our light and our strength.

Priest: Father, touch our hearts and make them receptive to your graces.
Grant us a contrite heart and a steadfast spirit to remain faithful to you
and your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
