MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PAXTON-BUCKLEY-LODA

COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 10 BOARD OF EDUCATION OF


FORD, CHAMPAIGN, VERMILION, IROQUOIS, AND LIVINGSTON COUNTIES
OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS HELD WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, 2022 AT 5:15
P.M. IN THE PAXTON-BUCKLEY-LODA ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE BOARD
ROOM IN PAXTON, ILLINOIS.

President Dawn Bachtold called the meeting to order at 5:23 p.m.

Upon roll call, the following board members answered present: Dawn Bachtold, Jason Rust, Jason Dirks,
Dana Bergandine, Craig Loschen, and Shawn Young. Steve Pacey was absent.

Others present were Cliff McClure, Luke Feeney, Josh Didier, Nathan Lawler, Student A’s mother,
Student A, Brian King, and Amy Teske– Board Secretary.

Shawn Young made a motion to appoint Dawn Bachtold as the presiding officer. Dana Bergandine
seconded the motion. Upon roll call, all board members being present, the vote was unanimous, and
the motion passed.

Craig Loschen made a motion to go into closed session pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c)9 student
disciplinary cases. Dana Bergandine seconded the motion. Upon roll call, all board members being
present, the vote was unanimous, and the motion passed.

Closed session began at 5:24 p.m.

Jason Dirks made a motion to come out of closed session. Shawn Young seconded the motion. Upon
roll call, all board members being present, the vote was unanimous, and the motion passed.

Closed session ended at 6:05 p.m.

President Bachtold advised that the Board of Education has heard testimony for the first part of the
expulsion hearing and will now decide if Student “A” is guilty of these charges.

Craig Loschen made a motion to approve that Student “A” be found to have committed an act of gross
disobedience and misconduct and/or violation of school rules so as to warrant discipline. Jason Dirks
seconded the motion. Upon roll call, all board members being present, the vote was unanimous, and
the motion passed.

President Bachtold announced that the board will now reconvene in closed session to determine the
punishment of Student “A”.

Dawn Bachtold made a motion to return to closed session. Craig Loschen seconded the motion. Upon
roll call, all board members being present, the vote was unanimous, and the motion passed.

Closed session began at 6:07 p.m.

Jason Dirks made a motion to come out of closed session. Jason Rust seconded the motion. Upon roll
call, all board members being present, the vote was unanimous, and the motion passed.

Closed session ended at 7:05 p.m.

Dawn Bachtold made a motion that Student “A” be expelled for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school
year and through the first day of the 2022-2023 school year, but that the expulsion be held in abeyance
for the sole purpose of Student A participating in the Edmentum remote program for the remainder of
the 2021-2022 school year, and that the expulsion be further held in abeyance for the purpose of
allowing Student A to participate in official practices for 2022 fall sports beginning August 8, 2022
provided that Student A provide proof of completion of counselling recommended by the Youth
Assessment Center (YAC) of Champaign County. Dana Bergandine seconded the motion. Upon roll
call, all board members being present, the vote was unanimous, and the motion passed.

Shawn Young made a motion to adjourn the special meeting. Dana Bergandine seconded the motion.
Upon roll call, all board members being present, the vote was unanimous, and the motion passed.

The special meeting adjourned at 7:08 p.m.
