The Multi-Purpose project, Magat Dam.

May 7,1975 Ferdinand Marcos established the Presidential Decrer No. 693. Whereas,
to further accelerate the development and utilization of the country's water and land resources
as a means of bolstering the government's food production and industrialization program
thereby enhancing the economic development of the nation.

The Magat Dam is designed to provide irrigation, recreational and fish conservation
facilities and also to generate electric power and energy.

The multi-purpose dam which is used primarily for irrigating about 85,000 hectares of
agricultural land and power generation. At the estimated maximum installed capacity of 540
megawatts, the electricity to be generated by the Magat turbines will be sufficient to supply the
energy requirements of Northern Luzon and parts of Central Luzon. This will also make a
possible wider network of cheap electric power.
