Numerical problems on DC drives-Unit 1

1. A 200 V, 875 rpm, 150 A separately excited dc motor has an armature

resistance of 0.06 Ω. It is fed from a l-‹I› half controlled rectifier with an
source voltage of 220 V, 50Hz. Assuming continuous conduction, calculate
firing angle for rated motor torque and 750 rpm.

2. A 200 V, 875 rpm, 150 A separately excited dc motor has an armature

resistance of 0.06 Al It is fed from a l-‹I› fully controlled rectifier with an
source voltage of 220 V, 50Hz. Assuming continuous conduction, calculate
firing angle for rated motor torque and 750 rpm.

3. A 220V, 875 rpm, 150 A separately excited dc Motor has an armature

resistance of 0.06 Ω is fed from a single phase fully controlled rectifier with
an ac source voltage of 220V, 50Hz. Assuming continuous conduction,
calculate
(i) firing angle for rated motor torque and 750 rpm.
(ii) firing angle for rated motor torque and (-500) rpm.

4. A 220 V, 1500 rpm, 10 A separately excited dc motor is fed from a 1- fully

controlled rectifier with an ac source voltage 220 V, 50 Hz. The armature
resistance is 2Ω and continuous conduction is assumed. Calculate firing
angles for i) half the rated motor torque and 500 rpm. ii) rated motor torque
and -1000 rpm.
