Ethical Issues in Playing Monopoly: Microsoft case

1. In 1981 - Bill gates purchasing OS from his friend and selling to IBM
2. Bill Gates not informing the partner (his friend) of Microsoft about the IBM deal.
3. Microsoft’s bundling of its media player with Windows
4. Microsoft copying most of the features of Netscape’s browser and launching its own
browser
5. Microsoft refusing to share Windows95 codes to Netscape
6. Microsoft polluting the Java code and launching its own version: Microsoft Java
which is not allowed to run original Java
7. Microsoft had forced computer companies that used its operating system to sign
agreement that they would not license, sell or distribute the products that compete
with Microsoft’s own products
8. Microsoft using its monopoly in operating system and preinstalling its browser,
without users’ permission
9. Ordering companies who are using their OS to install internet explorer, not to install
any other
10. Operating system monopoly power to becoming a monopoly in server market which
is actually against the anti-competitive laws
11. Copying Apple’s operating system features and adding some more advanced features,
Microsoft launched a new version which is a copy version.
12. Snatching away customer’s free will of using any other browser by pre installing
Internet explorer
