Lesson outline: 1. Pre-reading task: Students make predictions what the article can be about (read the title and
first two or three lines of the text and try to guess what the text is going to be about)
2. Vocabulary: teacher tries to elicit underlined words - students guess the meaning – if not
successful teacher gives an explanation and also makes brief notes about some other
Australian historical figures from the song that are not mentioned in the text
3. Reading the article – handout 02 - article “I am Australian
Students read the article aloud (to improve their pronunciation and fluency).
4. Reading comprehension – a) True or False exercise
b) Answer the questions about article
5. Listening to the song + Listening comprehension
students get handout 01with lyrics, will hear the song and fill in the gaps while listening to the
song again; after they finish the accuracy will be checked
Main objective: To give students basic information about Australian history via a song – Students will learn about
Milestones and Icons of Australian history through reading the article and listening to the song
Materials, aids or 1. Computer and overhead projector – the picture presentation will be played together with the
tools needed: song (pictures cover all main points mentioned in the lyrics)

phrases and their meaning
