1.WHAT IS INFLUENZA PANDEMIC?

Based on our discussion, pandemic is a disease outbreak that affects a huge

number of individuals across numerous countries and it is most often caused by

viruses such as influenza which may quickly transmit from person to person. An

influenza pandemic is a global breakout caused by an influenza virus particularly

when the population of a certain country has little or no immunity. It could be mild,

moderate, or severe affecting a considerable section of the population and putting

major demand on health and other important services as well as causing significant

economic losses, similar to Covid - 19 which lasts months or even years. In other

words, it is an international disease that occurs in all countries that affect millions of

people and may occur every 10 to 40 years due to major antigenic changes.

2.WHERE DO INFLUENZA VIRUSES COME FROM?

The influenza viruses came from animals and birds that don't ordinarily infect human

beings. New stains formed due to recombination between man, animals and birds.

Influenza A viruses that do not ordinarily infect humans are found in a variety of

animals including birds and pigs. Influenza viruses are constantly evolving, allowing

it probable for non-human influenza viruses to evolve in a manner that they might

quickly infect people and pass from person to person in some cases.

3.ARE THERE VACCINES TO PROTECT AGAINST PANDEMIC FLU?

Yes, there were vaccines that were created against pandemic-susceptible

influenza including vaccines against specific avian influenza viruses. If the same virus

would cause the pandemic, there were already vaccines for this kind of Influenza. In

fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has modified all flu
vaccines to protect against four different flu viruses and can be given at the same

time.
