1. Explain the importance of risk assessment in Cargo Operation. (15 points)

ANSWER - The marine risk assessment helps in evaluation of each hazard associated with the risks in
terms of the likelihood of harm and its potential aftermath. This assists in enabling the company to imply
priorities and exploit its scarce resources for greatest effect.

2. Explain the importance of effective communication as an essential ingredient to safe and


efficient ship operations. Why does communication link should establish between the ship’s
deck officers and the cargo terminal? (15 points)

ANSWER - The Effective means of communication are to be established between the ship's deck
officers and the cargo terminal which shall remain effective throughout the cargo operation.
This communication link should establish. The ship's officer responsible for the cargo operation
plan should submit the proposed loading/unloading plan to the cargo terminal representative at
the earliest opportunity to allow sufficient time for any subsequent modifications and to enable
the terminal to prepare accordingly. The ship's officers should be familiar with the IMO
Ship/Shore Safety Checklist.

3. Explain the procedures in Bulk Cargo Operation. (15 points)


ANSWER – THE Bulk carrier operators must be aware of the specific safety concerns related to
this type of ship. Loading of cargo must be done carefully, to ensure cargo cannot shift during a
voyage leading to stability problems. Large hatch covers must be watertight and secure.

4. Explain the procedures in entering an Enclosed Space. (15 points)

ANSWER - The presence of any one of the characteristics as stated above can make space an enclosed
space. A ship-specific list should be available to identify all enclosed spaces on board and should be
displayed in public spaces. The most common confined spaces onboard ships are cargo holds, chain
lockers, cofferdams, water tanks, void spaces, duct keels, fuel tanks, engine crankcases, Exhaust and
scavenge receivers.
