ePortfolio Reflection Paper

This is paper is to act as a reflection on the comprehensive master budget project that was just

completed in excel. I think the purpose of the assignment was to show a real-life example of how each of

the budgets learned in this module tie together. When you are working through assignments in canvas, I

think its easy to forget that each of these do tie together, and effect the outcomes of one another. The

project was really insightful to see that you had a data point wrong in one section of the budget, it threw

off the entirety of the budget.

The biggest thing that I took away from this assignment, is to really slow down and take your

time to understand what it is that you are calculating. The video’s provided were extremely helpful to

guide how to calculate the data, but if you don’t take the time to absorb what you’re doing, it won’t stick

with you. I tried to look at the tables before starting the video, and to draw on my knowledge and

anticipate what I would be calculating before playing the video. I would say that my excel skills were the

same from before and after the project. I use excel daily for work, so all the formulas used were familiar

to me. The skills that I did have to draw on for this assignment were remember how each of the budgets

were calculated. I did like the twist of the direct labor cost budget being different than the video. Even

though it wasn’t a hard budget to determine, it was nice to have to stand on your own feet and be

confident of your calculation without the video walking you through each step!

I would rate the level of difficulty of this assignment a 5, but had we not had the videos for

guidance it would most likely bump to an 8. This assignment was relevant to my major, as I am currently

working towards my bachelor’s in accounting. Although I don’t think that I will go into the

manufacturing/industrial world of accounting and would prefer to stay in the legal or tech, you never

know where you might end up! I am more that certain I will be putting these skills to the test throughout

my career.

The biggest challenge I faced in this assignment was accuracy. I had finished the assignment, felt

pretty confident, but I had a feeling that I needed to go back through it and double check formula’s, etc. I

am so glad I did! I found two mistakes that made a huge difference in the end result of the budget and am

so glad I took the time to do a thorough review.
