Course Description:
Building on the skills acquired from preparatory level to second year level courses, this
course aims to improve skills of reading, listening, and writing by familiarizing the students
with TOEFL IBT question types through thematic units. It is a course for students who have
upper intermediate to advanced level of knowledge of the language. The objective of the
course is to help students get ready for the TOEFL IBT, if they plan to take it for their
graduate studies.
Objectives:
Within the framework of the learning outcomes and competences designed for the course, the
objectives are as follows:

to complete an integrated writing task (synthesize information from a reading and
listening source to produce a written paragraph in English)
to summarize the points in a listening passage and explain how they relate to specific
points in a reading passage in writing
to increase vocabulary knowledge on different subjects

Method of Instruction
The approach used can be characterised as communicative and integrated.
Course Policies:
Assessment: There will be one midterm and one final examination. Cheating will
result in failing the course and may lead to disciplinary action. Please see University
Regulations. If you miss an exam, you will not be given a make-up exam unless you
submit an approved medical report or any other official document proving your
excuse.
