OF THE PROTECTORS
Professionals of fire brigades, industrial services,
emergency Response Teams, police, and army
regularly put their personal safety at risk to protect
that of others. In order to be able to do their often
life and asset-saving work properly in emergencies,
complete focus is essential. Threats of unexpected
and unfamiliar substances and situations that
require split-second decisions should not distract
them. Powered by adrenaline, they want to be able
to rely 100% on their HazMat CBRN suits, just
as they completely rely on their teammates. This
respectful knowledge has guided LION for many
decades.

LION has a lengthy tradition in services and products for the health,
safety and performance of first responders. In the US, LION is
the largest private developer and manufacturer of their personal
protective equipment, training products, facilities and services.

LION has been a family business since 1898. In the
first half of the last century, LION developed into a
respected specialist apparel supplier. In the Second
World War the company received an honourable
mention for its electrically heated flying suits for
the US Air Force. In the decades that followed,
LION continued to develop into a specialist for
fire brigades. The company employs many former
and active first responders who, based on their
practical experience, make valuable and innovative
contributions to the quality and reliability of LION
products and services.
At LION, we are a preferred supplier for, among
others, 25 of the 50 largest fire brigades in the
US. LION provides worldwide HazMat CBRN
clothing for Military and Law Enforcement Corps,
also for National Guard civil support teams and
Elite/ Tactical intervention groups. We also serve

LION has been present in Europe for over 30 years.
The European branch has been active, under the
name Haagen, since 1986. Haagen began as a
producer of heavy-duty smoke generators, followed
a few years later by a complete range of fire and
safety training products.
In 2011 Haagen and BullEx, a US company with
a similar portfolio, joined forces in the field of fire
technology, which did not go unnoticed by LION.
One year later, the experienced combination joined
the specialised Lion Group.

B AT T L E H E AT S T R E S S The right body temperature is essential for

focus, concentration, ability to act and react and
effectiveness. Even at a slightly elevated core
temperature of 37.5 °C, the human body loses
reaction speed and relevant visual and auditory
signals. At a mere 0.2 degrees rise in temperature,
(i.e. up to 37.7 °C) heat exhaustion already begins to
make itself felt.

LION HazMat CBRN are non-encapsulated suits that are
form-fitting, easily wearable, functional, comfortable, rugged,
durable, anti-static, high-performing suits with enhanced
dexterity and superior protection, especially against biological
hazards, blood borne pathogens, a whole range of chemicals
and all currently known nerve gasses, even VX.

TRILAMINATE MATERIAL

The suits’ unique feature is their triple-layering.
The innermost layer is comfortable to the skin,
making it easy to wear for extended periods of time.
The middle GORE® CHEMPAK® membrane is
what sets LION HazMat CBRN apart; it blocks
hazardous solids (powder), liquids, and gassy
(aerosol) materials (see test results after 8-12 hours
of certification compliance testing).
The outermost fabric is also outstanding in more
ways than one. It protects the suit - and therefore
its wearer, reassuring to know – sturdily and proven
against abrasion, tearing and accidental cutting.
The fabric’s integrated GORE® evaporating cooling
technology works as a cooler and heat stress
regulator as well when needed. When wetted with
water, the material allows this to evaporate and
draws heat from the body.

PROTECTING THE -USE OF- HANDS

Another specific LION-capability is the integrated and complete hand protection system without compromising
touch, feel and fit. The attached inner gloves are made with GORE® CHEMPAK® Ultra Barrier and to be worn
under separate Nomex® outer gloves – no tape needed. The combination of the inner and outer gloves is
sufficiently thin to allow ease of use of (rescue) tools, weapons, and even electronics.
 ECONOMICAL
Appealing to management and procurement and
tendering departments is our excellent price-
performance ratio. LION gear is pricewise neatly
average but can easily compete with the best that is
available worldwide.
FIT FORM FOR EASE OF MOVEMENT
On top of that, the non-encapsulated and formed fit
reduces stress. The ensemble enhances comfort,
communication, vision and speed of movement.
That is especially true in challenging circumstances:
actions such as safely crawling, jumping, running,
ladder climbing, going down utility holes, lifting and
moving objects and crossing obstacles are easily
possible, especially compared with traditional suits.
