People feel unhappy in the age of information technology

The string of breakthroughs we label “the information revolution” has led to some
socioeconomic changes in our society. Thanks to this transformation, our life is more
comfortable and convenient. Like many positive aspects; however, this change also
has some unexpected effects that result in people’s unhappiness.

Firstly, the reason why people feel upset is that more teenagers are hopelessly addicted
to games online considered as an utter waste of time and money. Due to the
detrimental impacts of violent factors in games on children’s behavior and mindset,
children are gradually obsessed by games online and do not concern about
surrounding things, hence probably becoming less friendly and sympathetic or even
more aggressive. My cousin exemplifies a game online addict. After his parents ended
in divorce, he began to abandon himself to games online. While he was in dire need
of money to satisfy his addiction, he stole some valuable objects from his
grandmother. Therefore, the problem with games online can be regarded as a cause
why the number of juvenile delinquents has increased remarkably.

Secondly, the achievements of electronic information breakthroughs make poor

families feel dejected because of a sense of injustice. Privileged people have a
tendency to adapt to information technology quickly, whereas young people in rural
regions or people on low incomes have fewer opportunities to access state-of-the-art
computers. In a fiercely competitive world, on account of their limited computer
knowledge, they may be at risk of facing redundancy or tend to earn a low salary.
Consequently, they might feel disenchanted with their jobs and bitterly resent the
society.
Finally, what makes people worried is the copyright infringement. Although most
singers have registered and received the patent for their albums, many people still fail
to adhere to the terms of copyright issues. Therefore, a wide range of counterfeit CDs
have been emerging for illegally commercial purposes. Especially, a variety of illegal
CDs with sexually explicit images on their covers can corrupt the mind of adolescents.
It is a thorny problem that can have devastating impacts on our community.

To sum up, the information technology era has considerably contributed to the
standard of living; however, there are some darker sides: games online addiction, the
sense of injustice, the infringement of copyright and cyberbullying. It is extremely
desirable that parents should impose strict controls on the time their children access
the Internet. Moreover, the government should give top financial priority to support
people with low incomes so that they can afford to purchase a modern computer. Last
but not least, people failing to abide by the copyright law and bringing out fake CDs
or CDs with sexual contents should be severely punished.
