What is the problem?

▸ cousin of the SARS virus


▸ has infected hundreds since the outbreak
began in Wuhan, China
▸ thinks it likely started in an animal and
spread to humans

▸ transmitted from animals to humans

How did it start?
❖ It came from a seafood and meat market in
Wuhan, China
❖ in December, it has since spread to other
countries, including the United States
❖ The market sold live and recently killed
animals, which is where the virus originated
❖ came from bats(initially believed the virus
came from snakes)

What might be the cause?

▸ They eat animals that have the coronavirus


▸ People have been infected by the animals that
have the coronavirus
▸ It is believed that the virus started in the “wet
market”, which sells both dead and live
animals.
▸ often circulate among camels, cats, and bats,
and can sometimes evolve and infect people. 4

● There have been 14 cases of the virus diagnosed in the U.S., all in
people who traveled recently to China or their close contacts.
● Another 39 U.S. residents have been infected in other parts of the
world before being repatriated and quarantined.
● But CDC officials say the country could soon see more cases as the
virus starts to spread through communities in areas outside China,
including Iran, South Korea, and Italy.

▸ Currently, there is no solution


▸ There is no vaccine for COVD-19
▸ But there is a vaccine for the seasonal flu that is
recommended for people over the age of 6
months
