 The Nairobi West Hospital laboratory uses the Diagnovital HS SARS -CoV-2 RT-PCR Kit and EXON SARS -CoV-2
RT-PCR Kit as in vitro diagnostic assays that are based on real time PCR technology, for the qualitative detection
of two different and highly specific gene sequences of SARS -CoV-2: N1/N2 regions of the nucleocapsid gene;
and RdRp and N1 genes respectively.

 Sample results: CT value for N1/N2 and N1/RdRp genes less than 40 is considered positive while values greater
than 40 or no CT is considered negative. These must be interpreted with all other controls in a run.

 This test is intended to be used as an aid for the diagnosis of individuals with signs and symptoms of corona
virus disease in conjunction with clinical and epidemiological risk factors.

NB: If you have any of these symptoms: cough, difficulty in breathing, unusual tiredness with a negative rapid
antigen or RT PCR, please consider doing further investigations (CT scan chest and serum biomarkers) to rule out
COVID-19. The serum biomarkers include: CRP, FBC, LFT, U/E/C, ESR, D -Dimers, Troponin, LDH and Ferritin
levels)
