Please provide comments in regards to the student teacher's strengths and areas for improvement.

Ms. Riddick provided an engaging language arts lesson using the text Sparrow Girl (fiction). She generated interest in the text by
stopping at various points and asking questions which ensured students were thinking critically. It was evident that students were
taught how to use text evidence to support their ideas. Ms. Riddick expertly used content vocabulary in her lesson which provided
continuity and insight regarding students’ prior knowledge of ecosystems. The evidence of strong relationships and a nurturing learning
environment was clear as students felt safe in raising their hands to express their thoughts and ideas. Anchor charts were clearly in
place to refer to as a visual reminder of the features of fiction texts.

In refining classroom management procedures consider alternate strategies to regain student engagement/focus instead of saying, “I’ll
wait” There are great nonverbal approaches like having students respond to hand signals or using a plush stuffed animal.
