 Cyber Safety is the safe usage of Internet by
not being a victim of any form of cyber crime .

 There are lots of potential cyber crimes

happening in today’s cyberspace . Therefore ,
it is necessary that the public is aware of such
measures that keep us safe from others .

 Some major things to remember when a person

suffers from or experiences cyber crime are :

1. Talk to a trusted adult , like your parents .

2. Visit “ https://cybercrime.gov.in ” and report
your crime here , with or without your identity
( anonymous ) .
There are more than a billion websites available
on the Internet , some highly explored and others
lie on the dark side . Therefore , it is very
necessary to :
1. Check the credibility of websites ; whether
they demand a lot of personal info or not .
2. In case a website demands more than
enough personal information , quit using
the website for the same purpose again .
3. Also , look out for websites that start with “
http ” and not “ https ” ; most of them are
vulnerable to data theft .
4. Lastly , check if the website contains a
icon on it’s left hand side . If it’s there , if’s a
safe website . If not , the website is prone to
data theft .
We all must have used E-mail and other such
accounts for online purposes . So , we should keep
in mind the following things :-

activities like entertainment , shopping , e-booking , e-
learning , e-transfer and many other purposes . This also
means that there are some safety measures that we all
must follow .

Nowadays , e-transactions have , to an extent ,
replaced the bulky physical transactions of

unless we follow some ways of keeping us safe :

transfer money : incase there’s an issue , you
can either get your money back or you can
legally file a case against the e-transaction
website .
2. Ensure that the money reaches to the correct
person by calling him / her .
3. Always look for signs of scams ( poor spelling
or grammar , demand of personal details on
phone or e-mail , rushing you to take
decisions ) .
E-Commerce has become another important tool in
the recent years , involving buying and selling
goods online . These sites offer privacy and proper
authentication to users . But still , there are certain
ways a person can be scammed by e-commerce
websites . Therefore , we need to take care of the
following things while using e-commerce websites :-

1. Check out for counterfeit websites ( fake

websites with the same name and similar
features) and malicious websites ( websites
containing malware ) before using the e-
commerce website .
2. Use multi-layer security , such as MFA , SSL and
firewalls .
3. Also , use and update anti-virus software present
in your device .
The Internet made bookings and reservations
much simpler , but it is said that “ Danger lurks
everywhere ” . Although e-reservations today
seems to be safe , they are not – considering
the amount of booking scams that happen
every year . To avoid such scams , we must :

1. Use the official website of the institution to

book your tickets or seats in an airline ,
hotel or any similar agency .
2. Check the legitimacy of the website .
3. Use a credit card instead of a debit card
for online bookings , as credit cards offer
higher fraud protection than the latter .
4. Confirm that the booking has been done
by calling the particular institute .
Armaan is working on his computer . Suddenly , He got a
message , stating that you just sent an e-mail message to
someone – but he didn’t even send an e-mail . What he should
do now ?

1. Check in the “ G – Mail ” app or website .

2. Check if the message “ Security Message ” , stating that it
asks whether you logged in right now or not .
3. Click “ No ” and change your password . Done !

A major advantage of using Google as your mail server is that it

provides added security to your account .
Reshma ordered a dress for herself , only to realize that the
order was not even placed & the transaction was done ! When
she complained it to the concerned website , they refused for
the refund . What should she do ?

1. If the website does not provide a refund , she should inform

the bank to it as their first priority . In most of the cases , the
person gets his / her refund .
2. If the problem still persists , she can file a complaint in some
online websites , like NCH ( National Consumer Helpline )
and “ consumerhelpline.gov.in ” .

This is how one can save their money in such situations .

The Internet is a vast area – no one knows what the other
person is up to . Therefore , cyber safety is a must for those
who use the Internet in any possible way . There is a saying
related to cyber crime , that :

“ Cyber crime , in today’s date , is the biggest danger of any

prospering organization . ”

Therefore , it is our duty to close the door of cyber crime .
