:::l A MESSAGE FROM THE PRYTANIS Mark L. Edelstone
w
I
On behalf of the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon I would

Z
.--t-
like to extend our warmest greetings and welcome you to our new
>- academic year. The actives are now beginning to settle down after
f-
Z our hectic rush week and the start of school. The members of the
a:
w house rushed extremely hard and have six top-notch associate
f-
<{ members for the alumni to meet. The foundation of members in the
a:
u.. chapter is currently very strong and I feel we have great poten
Z tial and can achieve all the goals we set for ourselves. I
0
firmly believe that with the help of a strong and supportive alumni

Z

Cl. we will be able to achieve these goals easier and faster.

Cl. We are planning several alumni functions this year, in

cluding on November 20th a brunch before the Stanford football
:::l game, with a party following. I hope to see you all there to

f- cheer on the Golden Bears in the Big Game, but most importantly
w
I to meet with the actives and our new associate members. Hopefully,
f-
you will also be able to meet Karl Seppala, our newly installed
chapter advisor. KarT is a past Prytanis and a recent Cal gradu
ate from the Department of Business Administration. It is my hope
that we will be able to have very successful alumni functions this
Volume 82 year, so let's try to have a big turnout for the events this
quarter.
Number 2
We have a beautiful copy of our charter, the printing
Fa11, 1982 of which was donated by Mrs. Lou Petterson in memory of her hus
band, Ivar Petterson. We would like to frame the charter in an
...--- , Ber e1ey, appropriate manner and hang it in the chapter room. It would be
Callfornia greatly appreciated by all the members of the undergraduate chapter
if one or two alums would like to donate the money for a frame.
( over please)

TKE
he Charter is e tremely important to the Chapte
r and a donation from alumni would give
lt an even more lmpo tant and special meaning.
I send my best wlshes to all of you and along with'
the men of the Chapter we look
forward to the Big Game Day's events.

EPIPRYTANIS'S REPORT Michael Spain

As we enter the 1982-83 school year, the primary focus of my office

will be to improve our fund-raising and philanthropic efforts. We will be try
ing a raffle as our first fundraiser and several different projects are being
looked at as philanthropic events. Any further suggestions from alumni are
most welcome. I can be reached most evenings at 415/845-5766.

RUSH REPORT Gilbert Clark

Rush at the University of California was very difficult this year

because there were only 500 rushees and 150 of these dropped out in the first
day of rush. We came through fall rush with only four pledges, but very good
men. We then proceeded with an informal rush, putting flyers in the dorms,
which got two more pledges who are exceptionally good men. A new rush program
instigated by our regional president, Chris Grasso, will be effected immedi
ately and is expected to produce extremely good results. We would like to
enlarge our chapter to at least fifty men this year and I and my rush committee
are working hard to achieve this. We are all looking forward to an exciting
and productive year at Nu Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon.

A REPORT FROM THE HEGEMON Mark Grimes

The Fall pledge class of 1982 is proving to be a very promising group.

Five of the six associate members are freshmen. They are: CRAIG KIRCHNER,
DAN WAKE, RODGER BAYLOCQ, GILBERT GASSUAN, and TOM STEELE. Our sixth new member
is BARRETT MADRIGAL, a junior majoring in History.

On October 4th the Fall 1982 class was officially pinned. Their
pledge project is the construction of a study room. I am hoping to have them
fully initiated by the end of the first week of January. We are all pleased
with the enthusiasm in our associate members and are looking forward to an
enjoyable quarter.
