humans cause changes to the environment.

b. Construct an explanation of the causes and effects of a change to the environment in your

environment.
What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

I want students to be able to find a change in the environment and identify if it was caused by
weather, plants, animals, or humans.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.

(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:

I will plan for the students to be able to create their own short video that shows an example of a
change in the environment, and what caused the change. I will introduce the project by explaining
what I am expecting them to create and showing them the video I created as an example. I will
introduce and show how to create a video using Adobe Creative Cloud Express if needed. In my
video there are four examples shown, but I will have my students only explain one example. I will
provide feedback to their outline/storyboard. I will provide feedback to the students after they
present their videos, or after I view them if there is not time to for students to present the videos
that they have created. I will conclude the lesson by having the students present their videos in
class, or have turn them in/send them to me online.
Managing student learning:

The students will become active social learners when they create a video that is meant to be shared with the
rest of the class, and explain what has made a change in the environment. I will first have students create an
outline/storyboard for their video. Students will be given a time limit on how long it should take to create
their outline/storyboard, and another time limit on how long they will have to create the video. This lesson
plan could be done by pairing to students or having them work in small groups. Students will also be
encouraged to ask each other for help.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:

Adobe Creative Cloud Express will help keep the students engaged because it is an easy-to-use tool
and creating a video will be a fun task for many students. Students will be proud of the videos they
create, and they will be able to express their ideas and understanding in video format.
Reflection:

Having students create their own video that explains a change in the environment and what caused
it will have students become more engaged in higher levels of thinking. Students will have to analyze
and evaluate their options for what caused the change in the environment. They will then have to
explain their understanding of what caused their change. I am looking forward to seeing how
students explain their reasoning for what caused a change in the environment.
