RATIONALE:
The PISA Global Competence Framework is celebrated every 3 years in order to
assess and measure the capacity of the students towards the current issues from local,
global, and even intercultural. It also aims to the students to be globally aware, liberate,
and to have effective interaction towards other people from different walks of life and
cultures, to be globally competence, holistic well-being, and sustainable development.
PISA stands for Programme for International Student Assessment, it is a world-
wide study by the organization for economic co-operation and development in member
and non-member nations intended to evaluate educational system by measuring 15
years old school pupils’ scholastic performance on mathematics, science, and reading.
Global competence is defined by PISA as a multi-dimensional construct that requires a
combination of knowledge, skills, attitude and values that would be successfully applied
to global issues or intercultural situations. It helps to shape students to be a good
nation-builder and to be a productive and effective one.
SYNTHESIS:
PISA is held every 3 years since 2000 and over half a million students 15 years
old are presenting from 80 countries. It is intentionally agreed to take 2 hours test by
answering a questionnaire and cognitive test. PISA is said to be a global competence
simply because the students are expected to: 1.) live harmoniously in multi-cultural
society. 2.) Thrive in a changing labour market. 3.) Use media platforms effectively and
responsibly. And lastly, 4.) support sustainable development goals.
PISA does not trying to replace the role of the school rather it helps in shaping
the students to be globally competitive, liberate towards global awareness and promote
value of diversity. PISA global competence is defined as a multi-dimensional that
requires a combination of knowledge, skills, attitude, and values that should be applied
to global issues or intercultural situations.
In measuring this global competence in PISA, there are 2 instrument that are
being used namely: cognitive test and questionnaire. Cognitive test consist of global
understanding test, while questionnaire consist of students self-reported data on the
other component such as openness, and adaptability, knowledge, skills and attitude.
Also includes about principal and teacher self-reported data on activities related to
global and intercultural education. In addition, there are also rubric in assessing
cognitive process. Example: basic, intermediate, and advance
REFLECTION:
PISA organization has really a good vision toward shaping the students to be
globally competitive, productive and a responsible nation-builder in which they are
focusing on mathematics, science an dreading. Because this three aspect or category
are very applicable in our day to day living. Although we don’t really appreciate and
obvious their uses mostly the math and science but still their presence really does. I as
future teacher, we should put more emphasize on teaching math, science and reading
because they are t5he weapons of the students in taking their path towards their
ultimate goals in life. It doesn’t mean that I’m tolerating the other subject, but simply
encouraging students to love those subjects because we are now in a digital age and all
of the requirements in landing a job include digital skills and the other way around.
Mathematics, science and reading are really valuable in order to fit this fast changing
environment.
