Project summary (maximum 500 words)

Through this makerspace the students will be able to explore the agriculture
industry and where their food comes from. Students will have the opportunity to
develop promotional material and construct growing apparatuses for indoor food
growing.

Project goals and objectives (What issue is your project designed to address in
your school? How will your project address your goals? How will your project
impact the school?)

- Access to fresh food. Our school has a high population of low-income

students who often do not have a healthy lunch. Through this project
students will be able to explore where food comes from and the
opportunities they have to grow their own food.
- Learning about responsibility. Growing food does not happen over-night, it
requires; time, patience and dedication. Through this program students will
learn about responsibility and care of a living plant to ensure it produces a
product. This will benefit the students by building the life skills and will help
with motivating the students to attend class on a regular basis which will
have a positive impact on students marks and mental health.

School implementation plan (How do the goals for your project support your
school’s school improvement plan?)

- These goals support both our literacy and numeracy improvement plans.
Through log-books the students will be encouraged to record information
such as; plant growth, maintenance, chemical requirements and
harvesting.

Describe the participants (Describe your school population and your target
group. How many students will you impact? Will your project promote inclusivity?
How does your project support the model of lifelong learning? How will you
attract students outside your target group?)

- Students from the entire school population will be permitted to participate

in the project regardless of class level, gender, sexual orientation, cultural
background or capabilities.
- There will be a focus on recruiting the at-risk students and those with
unsupportive homes. The goal will be to positively impact as many
students that we can through healthy food.
- By having this accessible to students in a central location it will be visible
to all students and promoted through social media accounts and daily
announcements.

Measuring outcomes (What techniques will you use to measure the success of
your project? How will you include a student voice?

- We will be able to measure success through student attendance. Those

students who are at risk and have a poor attendance record will have a
higher success rate in other areas as a result of the dependency to be
innovating and maintaining crops within the school.
- We will also see progress through student lunches and the frequency that
fresh food is present in the daily lunch.
