■ What colors are prominent throughout the piece?
■ Why do you think this artist created this work?
■ How does it make you feel?
■ Why do you think these animals are endangered?
■ How does our lesson relate to the prints of Andy Warhol?

Guided Practice (10 Minutes): Teacher will demonstrate printing

1. How to do block printing with foam
2. Introduce new materials (Ink, brayer, etc)
3. Demo how to make a print
a. Sketch then transfer to styrofoam printing plate
b. Roll out ink on tray - one color and two colors
c. If it turns out nice, wipe foam well and dry totally
d. If it doesn’t turn out well, it either needs more ink or the lines pressed harder
4. There are X printing stations set up around the room
a. Green & Blue: Two color on trays
b. Red & Yellow: One color on trays
5. Each student will make 4 prints today. Each print should use a different color on a unique paper
color
6. At clean up, names should go on prints and they will go onto the drying rack
7. Student volunteers will clean printmaking materials
● Review procedures
○ Review printmaking procedures
○ Studio time for students to make two additional prints
○ See part three for cleanup procedures

Independent Practice: After the guided practice, I will let students choose animal drawing guide and
begin their project
1. Draw sketch for print. Animal drawing guides can be used for reference
2. Pick 1-2 colors to use for printing
3. Make one test print
4. Print 4 animal prints
5. Can create 1-2 additional prints to take home if time allows
6. Cleanup

Day 2:
1. Demonstration of how to mount prints
a. I will have a template for students to trace
2. Place prints on a 11x14 unique colored construction paper
3. Once it is placed properly, use a dot of glue in each corner to attach prints to paper
4. Create repeating patterns around border (review of repeating patterns)
5. Students will reflect with an artist statement. This will be taped to the back

Clean-Up (5-6 minutes)

Closure: We have been learning about Andy Warhol in this inspired endangered animal lesson today.
Next time we will find our prints and I will demonstrate how to complete the border.
● On your exit ticket, list the MEDIA you used to create your artwork, and answer the following
