BPSC BIHAR JUDICIAL SERVICE EXAM


Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: In order to appear for the  BiharJudicial Service Exam 2020,
candidates must have an LLB or equivalent degree from an institute that is recognized by the Bar
Council of India. 
Age Limit: The lower age limit is 22 years and upper age limit is 35 years for appearing at BPSC
Judicial Service Exam. The age relaxation for the OBC category candidates is 3 years and for
SC/ST Category is 5 years.
Other: Candidates with the permanent domicile of Bihar and those who belong to reserved
category will be offered relaxation in the upper age limit.

BPSC Judicial Service Selection Process 2020


The BPSC Judicial Service Exam is conducted in three phases. Each phase is a deciding factor for
the candidate to appear for the next phase. These phases are -

JHARKHAND JUDICIAL SERVICE CIVIL JUDGE EXAM


SYLLABUS & OVERVIEW

Eligibility and Age Limit – Jharkhand Civil Judge (Junior Division)

Educational qualification & Practice of Law : Degree of Law (LLB) from a recognized
University (Recognized by the BCI) and enrolled as an advocate under the Advocates, Act,
1961 till last date of submission of application form.

Note : Valid and active registration is must. A suspended Registration not be accepted.

General Requirements : Possesses sound health, bears good moral character and is not
involved in, or related to any criminal case involving moral turpitude.

Age limit : Above the age of 22 years and below the age of 35 years as on the date mentioned
in the advertisement. In the case of female candidates, or candidates belonging to Scheduled
Caste or Scheduled Tribe there shall be relaxation of the upper age limit by 3 years
The competitive exam for Civil Judge Junior Division selection will be held in three distinct
steps as listed below :

(1) Preliminary Entrance Test – Written Examination (Multiple Choice Questions /


Objective Type).
(2) (2) Main Examination – Written Examination (Subjective). 
(3) Viva-Voce Test – Personal Interview / Oral Examination

ENTRANCE TEST

(1). The Preliminary Entrance Test shall consist of :

 General English
 General Knowledge (including Current Affairs)
 The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908.
 The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
 The Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
 The Law of Contract, 1872.
 The Indian Penal Code, 1860.

 The Preliminary Entrance Test shall be of 100 marks in aggregate.

Duration of Preliminary Entrance Test shall be of two hours.

MAIN EXAM

The Main exam will consist of four papers of 100 marks each, comprising of questions on the
following subjects. Each paper will be for three hours.

Viva-Voce Test
There shall be Viva-Voce Test of 100 marks.  In the Viva-Voce Test the minimum required
qualifying marks would be 25% for the General category candidates and 20% for
SC/ST/EBC & BC.

No candidates, irrespective of the marks obtained by him in the Main Examination, shall be
eligible for selection for appointment, if he obtains less than minimum prescribed marks in
the Viva-Voce Test.

The final selection list shall be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the Main
Examination and the Viva-Voce Test both.

In case of tie of marks between the candidates in the final selection list,their selection will be
made firstly on the basis of qualification, i.e., person having Post Graduate Degree in Law
shall be given preference and thereafter on the basis of experience, if any, in legal practice
and still if necessary, on the basis of seniority in age.

RAJASTHAN JUDICIAL SERVICE EXAM RJS CIVIL JUDGE

Eligibility and Age Limit – Rajasthan Judicial Service Exam – RJS Civil Judge

Age Limit

 Candidates should be a minimum of 23 years of age and not more than 35 years of age (Maximum) as
on the specific cut off date mentioned in the official advertisement for the year.
 The age limits are relaxable for various categories of candidates. Refer to the current year’s official
advertisement for full details.

Educational & other Qualifications

 Candidates should have a degree of Bachelor of Laws (Professional) from any University in India,
which is recognized as such under the Advocates Act, 1961)
 Candidates should be thoroughly knowledgeable about Rajasthani Dialects and Social Customs.

RJS CIVIL JUDGE EXAM PATTERN

The exam for recruitment to the cadre of Civil Judge will have three distinct phases :

I. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type Multiple Choice)


II. Written Main Examination (Subjective / Essay type type)
III. Interview a.k.a Viva voce (Personal Assessment.)

 RAJASTHAN JUDICIAL SERVICE – RJS CIVIL JUDGE PRELIMINARY EXAM


 The Preliminary Examination will be an objective type examination
 70% weightage will be given to the subjects prescribed in syllabus for Law Paper-1 and Law Paper-11
 30% weightage shall be given to test proficiency in Hindi and English language

 No negative marking for wrong answers / unanswered questions
 The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted towards the final ranking

DELHI JUDICIAL SERVICE DJS CIVIL JUDGE EXAM


SYLLABUS & OVERVIEW
Delhi Judicial Service Civil Judge Exam is held in three successive stages

(i) Delhi Judicial Service Preliminary Examination (Objective Type with 25% negative
marking) for selection for the Main Examination
(ii) Delhi Judicial Service Main Examination (Written) for selection of candidates for calling
for Viva voce
(iii) The Viva-voce exam (Personal Interview & Personality Test)

Eligibility and Age Limit – Delhi Judicial Service Exam – DJS Exam

Basic Eligibility

(a) Must be a citizen of India;


(b) Must be practicing as an Advocate in India or a person qualified to be admitted as an
Advocate under the Advocates Act, 1961.

Age limits

(a) Not more than 32 years of age as on the specific date mentioned in the official exam
advertisement for the year.

In the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Tribes, the upper age limit is
relaxable by 5 years. The upper age limit is also relaxable maximum by 5 years in the case of
Ex-Servicemen who have rendered at least 5 years military service . Refer to the official
advertisement of the year for details of allowable relaxations for various categories of
applicants.
SYLLABUS FOR THE DELHI JUDICIAL SERVICE DJS CIVIL JUDGE PRELIMINARY
EXAM

The Preliminary Examination will be a Screening Test and will consist of one paper of
multiple objective type questions (MCQs) carrying maximum of 200 marks.

In the Preliminary Examination, the questions will be around the general knowledge and
aptitude of the candidate, candidate’s power of expression, flair in English, knowledge of
objective type legal problems and their solutions.

The topics will cover :

The minimum qualifying marks in the Preliminary Examination will be 60% for General and
55% for Reserved Categories i.e. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Physically
Handicapped (Blind/Low Vision) / Orthopaedically handicapped/hearing impaired).

The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Examination (Written) will not be more
than Ten times the total number of vacancies of each category advertised.

The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared
qualified for admission to the Main Examination (Written) will not be counted for
determining their final order of merit.

SYLLABUS FOR THE DELHI JUDICIAL SERVICE CIVIL JUDGE MAIN EXAM

The Main Examination (Written , descriptive or essay type) will include the following
subjects :

1. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND LANGUAGE : 100 + 150 MARKS

This paper will comprise two sections.


Section I : General Knowledge : This is to test the candidate’s knowledge of current affairs
etc. I.e. Current legal topics in the news, Static and dynamic GK (100 Marks)

Section II : Language (Essay, Translation and Precis Writing) : This is to test the candidate’s
knowledge and power of expression in English.

Credit will be given both for substance and expression. There will also be a type of negative
marking, wherein, deduction of marks will be made for bad expression, faults of grammar
and misuse of words etc.

There will be two passages for translation, one in English – to be translated into Hindi (in
Devnagri Script). One in Hindi (in Devnagri Script) – to be translated into English. (150
marks)

 Eligibility and Age Limit – CGPSC Civil Judge

Age Limit

The candidate must have completed the age of 21 years but he/she must not have completed
35 years of age as on the specific date mentioned in the official advertisement for the year.

applicants.

Educational Qualification

Candidate must have completed a Bachelor Degree of Law from a recognized University –
approved by the BCI

MAIN EXAM

The Main Examination will be a descriptive written exam on with the following components :

(i) Framing of issues and writing of Judgement in Civil Cases (Maximum Marks – 40)

(ii) Framing of charges and writing of Judgement in Criminal Cases (Maximum Marks – 40)

(iii) Translation:-
(1) English to Hindi (Maximum 10 marks)
(2) Hindi to English(Maximum 10 marks)

Note : For the purpose of the Framing of Issues, Charges and writing judgements, the basic
material such as the plaint, FIR and other relevant documents may be be provided to the
students. However, candidates are not allowed to carry any material (in physical or
electronic form) into the exam hall.

Viva-Voce – Personal Interview – 15 Marks

The Viva voce will be a personal interview for candidates shortlisted on the basis of their
Main Exam scores. The final selection will be on merit on the basis of total marks obtained in
the written (Main) Examination and Viva-voce.
MAHARASHTRA JUDICIAL SERVICE EXAM CIVIL JUDGE
JUNIOR DIVISION SYLLABUS & OVERVIEW

Eligibility and Age Limit – Maharashtra Judicial Service Civil Judge & Judicial Magistrate
First Class Exam

  Applicant must be a citizen of India.


 Candidate must have acquired a bachelor degree in law from a recognized institute or university.
 The age of the candidates must be less than or equal to 35 years as on the date mentioned in the
official advertisement
 Candidates belonging to SC and ST category will get 3 years relaxation in their upper age
 Refer to the official advertisement of the year for other details

The exam is conducted in three stages :


1. Preliminary Exam – objective type – which is used only for shortlisting candidates for the
mains exam and not in the final ranking.
2. Mains Exam – Descriptive type
3. Viva-voce – Personal interview

The aggregate scores from the main examination and the viva-voce are used for the final
rankings.

Eligibility and Age Limit -Goa Judicial Service Civil Judge, Junior Division & Judicial
Magistrate First Class Exam

I. Essential Educational Qualifications for Goa Judicial Service Exam

1. Degree in Law. (Recognized by the Bar Council of India as LLB or equivalent; which
enables the holder to practice law in India.)
2. Knowledge of Konkani. (Spoken, Written & Reading)

Desirable Qualifications for Goa Civil Judge, Junior Division & Judicial Magistrate First Class Exam

1. Knowledge of Marathi.
The above language skills / knowledge must be certified by the appropriate authorities as
mentioned in the official advertisement.

II. Experience requirements for Goa Civil Judge & Judicial Magistrate Exam

 Must have practiced as an Advocate in the High Court or Courts subordinate thereto for a period of
three years. OR
 Must be a fresh Law Graduate who has secured the degree in law by passing all the examinations
leading to the degree in the first attempt and has secured in the final year examination of the degree in
Law or in case of candidates holding Master’s Degree in Law at final L.L.M. examination not less
than fifty-five percent marks. OR
 Must be working or must have worked as a Public Prosecutor or Additional Public Prosecutor or
Assistant Public Prosecutor or Government Advocate for not less than 3 years in the post or posts. In
computing the period of 3 years, the period during which the candidate has worked as an Advocate
shall be included. OR
 Must be a member of Ministerial staff of –
(i) the High Court or Courts subordinate thereto; or
(ii) the offices of the Government Pleaders attached to those Courts; OR
 Must be working as Superintendent in the High Court of Bombay at Goa, Panaji or in the Courts
subordinate thereto in Goa and holding a Degree in Law or Sub-Registrar or District Registrar in Goa
and holding a Degree in Law or Legal Assistant in the Law Department of the Government of Goa or
Superintendent (Legal/Drafting) in the Law Department of the Government of Goa, for not less than 5
years in the post or posts.

III. Age criteria for Goa Civil Judge / Magistrate Exam (As on the date of Advertisement).

Not less than (Minimum) twenty one years and not more than (Maximum) –
(i) thirty-five years in the case of Advocates with three years practice,
(ii) twenty five years in case of fresh Law Graduates.
(iii) forty-five years in the case of ministerial staff.
Provided that the upper age limit in each of the above categories may be relaxed by five years
in respect of candidates belonging to communities recognized as backward by the
Government for the purpose of recruitment.

The Goa Judicial Service Civil Judge / Magistrate Exam will be held in following three
stages

(i) Preliminary written Examination comprising of multiple choice objective questions,


carrying total 100 marks. The medium of preliminary examination shall be English.

The aim of Preliminary written Examination is to shortlist the candidates to appear for final
written examination. Therefore, in all 10 times candidates of total number of posts will be
allowed to the final written examination as per the merit list of the preliminary written
examination. The preliminary examination being screening test, its marks will not be taken
into consideration for final selection and will not be communicated to the candidates.

(ii) The candidates found eligible in the preliminary written examination will have to appear
for final written examination which shall be of two papers carrying 100 marks each, having
duration of 3 hours each in Civil Laws and Criminal Laws respectively. The medium of the
written examination shall be either Konkani or Marathi or English. The candidate shall
specifically mention in his/her application form about his choice of medium. Choice once
given shall not be allowed to be changed subsequently in any case.

(iii) The High Court shall hold viva-voce examination carrying 50 marks of the candidates
who secures not less than 50% of marks in each paper at such final written examination.
Provided that the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates who secure not less than
45% marks in each paper shall be eligible for the viva-voce.

Language Requirement

Candidates should have sufficient knowledge of Konkani and Marathi languages and that,
he / she should be able to speak, read & write Konkani and Marathi and be able to translate
with clarity and ease Konkani & Marathi into English and vice versa. Candidates will have to
submit a certificate as per the required format attesting their language ability.
