Note: General Hindi and General English papers are qualifying in nature. Candidates need to
obtain minimum 30 marks in these papers to qualify the Mains exam. The marks of these two
papers will not be counted for the final merit list.
For Mains Exam, candidates need to choose 3 subjects out of the following five optional
subjects:
- Constitution and Administrative Law of India
- Law of Transfer of Property and Principle of Equity, Law of Trust and Specific Relief
- Commercial Law
Subject Syllabus
It tests candidates’ understanding of English
Language and his or her ability to write in
English. In this section, questions asked are an
General English unseen passage for summary or précis writing,
letter writing and others.
Educational qualification & Practice of Law : Degree of Law (LLB) from a recognized
University (Recognized by the BCI) and enrolled as an advocate under the Advocates, Act,
1961 till last date of submission of application form.
Note : Valid and active registration is must. A suspended Registration not be accepted.
General Requirements : Possesses sound health, bears good moral character and is not
involved in, or related to any criminal case involving moral turpitude.
Age limit : Above the age of 22 years and below the age of 35 years as on the date mentioned
in the advertisement. In the case of female candidates, or candidates belonging to Scheduled
Caste or Scheduled Tribe there shall be relaxation of the upper age limit by 3 years
The competitive exam for Civil Judge Junior Division selection will be held in three distinct
steps as listed below :
General English
General Knowledge (including Current Affairs)
The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908.
The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
The Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
The Law of Contract, 1872.

The Main exam will consist of four papers of 100 marks each, comprising of questions on the
following subjects. Each paper will be for three hours.

(Procedural Law (The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 and The Code of Criminal
Procedure,1973).
The Indian Penal Code, 1860.
The Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
The Limitation Act, 1963.

Viva-Voce Test
There shall be Viva-Voce Test of 100 marks. In the Viva-Voce Test the minimum required
qualifying marks would be 25% for the General category candidates and 20% for
SC/ST/EBC & BC.
No candidates, irrespective of the marks obtained by him in the Main Examination, shall be
eligible for selection for appointment, if he obtains less than minimum prescribed marks in
the Viva-Voce Test.
The final selection list shall be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the Main
Examination and the Viva-Voce Test both.
In case of tie of marks between the candidates in the final selection list,their selection will be
made firstly on the basis of qualification, i.e., person having Post Graduate Degree in Law
shall be given preference and thereafter on the basis of experience, if any, in legal practice
and still if necessary, on the basis of seniority in age.
Age Limit
Candidates should be a minimum of 23 years of age and not more than 35 years of age (Maximum) as
on the specific cut off date mentioned in the official advertisement for the year.
The age limits are relaxable for various categories of candidates. Refer to the current year’s official
advertisement for full details.
Candidates should have a degree of Bachelor of Laws (Professional) from any University in India,
which is recognized as such under the Advocates Act, 1961)
Candidates should be thoroughly knowledgeable about Rajasthani Dialects and Social Customs.
The exam for recruitment to the cadre of Civil Judge will have three distinct phases :
Law : Same syllabus as prescribed for the Law Papers I & II for the Main
Examination.

Basic Eligibility
Age limits
(a) Not more than 32 years of age as on the specific date mentioned in the official exam
advertisement for the year.
In the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Tribes, the upper age limit is
relaxable by 5 years. The upper age limit is also relaxable maximum by 5 years in the case of
Ex-Servicemen who have rendered at least 5 years military service . Refer to the official
advertisement of the year for details of allowable relaxations for various categories of
applicants.
SYLLABUS FOR THE DELHI JUDICIAL SERVICE DJS CIVIL JUDGE PRELIMINARY
EXAM
The Preliminary Examination will be a Screening Test and will consist of one paper of
multiple objective type questions (MCQs) carrying maximum of 200 marks.
In the Preliminary Examination, the questions will be around the general knowledge and
aptitude of the candidate, candidate’s power of expression, flair in English, knowledge of
objective type legal problems and their solutions.

The minimum qualifying marks in the Preliminary Examination will be 60% for General and
55% for Reserved Categories i.e. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Physically
Handicapped (Blind/Low Vision) / Orthopaedically handicapped/hearing impaired).
The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Examination (Written) will not be more
than Ten times the total number of vacancies of each category advertised.
The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared
qualified for admission to the Main Examination (Written) will not be counted for
determining their final order of merit.
SYLLABUS FOR THE DELHI JUDICIAL SERVICE CIVIL JUDGE MAIN EXAM
The Main Examination (Written , descriptive or essay type) will include the following
subjects :
Section II : Language (Essay, Translation and Precis Writing) : This is to test the candidate’s
knowledge and power of expression in English.
Credit will be given both for substance and expression. There will also be a type of negative
marking, wherein, deduction of marks will be made for bad expression, faults of grammar
and misuse of words etc.
There will be two passages for translation, one in English – to be translated into Hindi (in
Devnagri Script). One in Hindi (in Devnagri Script) – to be translated into English. (150
marks)
Age Limit
The candidate must have completed the age of 21 years but he/she must not have completed
35 years of age as on the specific date mentioned in the official advertisement for the year.
Refer to the official advertisement for various relaxations allowed for various categories of
applicants.
Educational Qualification
Candidate must have completed a Bachelor Degree of Law from a recognized University –
approved by the BCI
Overall Scheme of the Chhattisgarh Judicial Service CGPSC Civil Judge Exam
The Chhattisgarh Judicial Service CGPSC Civil Judge Exam is conducted in three distinct
phases :
SYLLABUS OF CHHATTISGARH JUDICIAL SERVICE CGPSC CIVIL JUDGE
PRELIMINARY EXAM
The Online Preliminary Examination shall be of the duration of two hours consisting of 100
objective type questions from the following Central and State level laws :
The Main Examination will be a descriptive written exam on with the following components :
(i) Framing of issues and writing of Judgement in Civil Cases (Maximum Marks – 40)
(ii) Framing of charges and writing of Judgement in Criminal Cases (Maximum Marks – 40)
(iii) Translation:-
(1) English to Hindi (Maximum 10 marks)
(2) Hindi to English(Maximum 10 marks)
Note : For the purpose of the Framing of Issues, Charges and writing judgements, the basic
material such as the plaint, FIR and other relevant documents may be be provided to the
students. However, candidates are not allowed to carry any material (in physical or
electronic form) into the exam hall.
The Viva voce will be a personal interview for candidates shortlisted on the basis of their
Main Exam scores. The final selection will be on merit on the basis of total marks obtained in
the written (Main) Examination and Viva-voce.
MAHARASHTRA JUDICIAL SERVICE EXAM CIVIL JUDGE

SYLLABUS FOR CIVIL JUDGE (JUNIOR DIVISION) & JUDICIAL MAGISTRATE (FIRST
CLASS) MAIN EXAM
PAPER-I
PAPER-II
1. Degree in Law. (Recognized by the Bar Council of India as LLB or equivalent; which
enables the holder to practice law in India.)
2. Knowledge of Konkani. (Spoken, Written & Reading)
Desirable Qualifications for Goa Civil Judge, Junior Division & Judicial Magistrate First Class Exam
1. Knowledge of Marathi.
The above language skills / knowledge must be certified by the appropriate authorities as
mentioned in the official advertisement.
II. Experience requirements for Goa Civil Judge & Judicial Magistrate Exam
Must have practiced as an Advocate in the High Court or Courts subordinate thereto for a period of
three years. OR
Must be a fresh Law Graduate who has secured the degree in law by passing all the examinations
leading to the degree in the first attempt and has secured in the final year examination of the degree in
Law or in case of candidates holding Master’s Degree in Law at final L.L.M. examination not less
than fifty-five percent marks. OR
Must be working or must have worked as a Public Prosecutor or Additional Public Prosecutor or
Assistant Public Prosecutor or Government Advocate for not less than 3 years in the post or posts. In
computing the period of 3 years, the period during which the candidate has worked as an Advocate
shall be included. OR
Must be a member of Ministerial staff of –
(i) the High Court or Courts subordinate thereto; or
(ii) the offices of the Government Pleaders attached to those Courts; OR
Must be working as Superintendent in the High Court of Bombay at Goa, Panaji or in the Courts
subordinate thereto in Goa and holding a Degree in Law or Sub-Registrar or District Registrar in Goa
and holding a Degree in Law or Legal Assistant in the Law Department of the Government of Goa or
Superintendent (Legal/Drafting) in the Law Department of the Government of Goa, for not less than 5
years in the post or posts.
III. Age criteria for Goa Civil Judge / Magistrate Exam (As on the date of Advertisement).
Not less than (Minimum) twenty one years and not more than (Maximum) –
(i) thirty-five years in the case of Advocates with three years practice,
(ii) twenty five years in case of fresh Law Graduates.
(iii) forty-five years in the case of ministerial staff.
Provided that the upper age limit in each of the above categories may be relaxed by five years
in respect of candidates belonging to communities recognized as backward by the
Government for the purpose of recruitment.
The Goa Judicial Service Civil Judge / Magistrate Exam will be held in following three
stages
The aim of Preliminary written Examination is to shortlist the candidates to appear for final
written examination. Therefore, in all 10 times candidates of total number of posts will be
allowed to the final written examination as per the merit list of the preliminary written
examination. The preliminary examination being screening test, its marks will not be taken
into consideration for final selection and will not be communicated to the candidates.
(ii) The candidates found eligible in the preliminary written examination will have to appear
for final written examination which shall be of two papers carrying 100 marks each, having
duration of 3 hours each in Civil Laws and Criminal Laws respectively. The medium of the
written examination shall be either Konkani or Marathi or English. The candidate shall
specifically mention in his/her application form about his choice of medium. Choice once
given shall not be allowed to be changed subsequently in any case.
(iii) The High Court shall hold viva-voce examination carrying 50 marks of the candidates
who secures not less than 50% of marks in each paper at such final written examination.
Provided that the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates who secure not less than
45% marks in each paper shall be eligible for the viva-voce.

Language Requirement
Candidates should have sufficient knowledge of Konkani and Marathi languages and that,
he / she should be able to speak, read & write Konkani and Marathi and be able to translate
with clarity and ease Konkani & Marathi into English and vice versa. Candidates will have to
submit a certificate as per the required format attesting their language ability.
