Card Overview .................................................................................................27
The TJ1600 POTP (11 Slot) with HCPXCC04 as the cross-connect card supports either 640G
HO/OTN or 360G HO+120G LO mode. With HCPXCC03, it supports 340G HO. In one, the
traffic Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) cards carrying SDH and OTN traffics can inter work
by creating a virtual cross connect fabric over the active back plane. This also can accommodate
stand alone Ethernet switching cards which can also be used in meshed configuration over the
back plane. In the second, the same traffic cards can be used as transponder and muxponder
configurations in which the traffic does not flow in the back plane but is localised to the traffic
cards only. The first configuration is primarily used as Packet Optical Transport Platform
(POTP) and the second one as the Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM)
applications. For both the POTP and DWDM application common integrated and stand alone
additional DWDM optical elements such as Optical Fiber Amplifiers (OFA), optical Multiplexer
and Demultiplexer Units (MDU), Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexer (ROADM),
optical Dispersion Compensator Module (DCM) are used to transport and add/drop
multichannel high speed 10Gbps, 40Gbps and 100Gbps DWDM wavelengths. By multiplexing
in the optical domain, up to 80 channels at ITU-T 50GHz can be supported in a pair of fiber of
all variety. Using various types of OFAs and advanced forward error correction codes (FEC),
transmission distance up to 1000km can supported in the optical domain before electrical
regeneration is required.

Chapter 5 OAM Card
Backplane Interface
HCPOAM01 card connects to the backplane and receives the -48 V input through the backplane.
ESI Interface
The HCPOAM01 card provides ESI clock/ data interface on a RJ-45 connector.
SDH Mode: The BITS clock input is at 2.048 MHz and can be nominated as a reference for
node synchronization. Loss-of-Signal (LOS) is detected on the clock input and this triggers to
change over to the next synchronization reference. The timing reference failed alarm is
reported on the user interface. The BITS data input is at 2.048 Mbps. Both PCM30 and
PCM31 (with/without CRC) framing can be used on the input. This input can be nominated
as a reference for node synchronization. LOS, LOF and AIS are detected on this input and
this triggers to change over to the next synchronization reference. The timing reference failed
alarm is reported on the user interface. The OAM card contains redundant timing interfaces.
The node can be synchronized from the following sources from OAM card:
Received STM-1/4/16/64/Ethernet interfaces
Received E1 interface
Clock derived from External BITS clock
Clock derived from External BITS data
LAN Interface
The LAN Interface provides a CSMA/CD based LAN transceiver of an Ethernet link. This is
available as an RJ-45 connector. The Ethernet address is available in the non-volatile memory on
the OAM card.
The LAN interface physical layer is completely implemented in hardware. The physical layer
device provides clock recovery, bit timing, equalization and a „Jabber‟ circuit. The Media Access
Control (MAC) function is implemented in software available as part of the microcontroller.
„Jabber‟ circuitry ensures that the transmitter does not hold up the interface for more than a full
frame of data.
Two LEDs are used to indicate link status of the connector. The LAN interface is associated
with two LEDs, Green and Amber.
51
TJ1600 POTP R5.0 Hardware Description Guide Document ID: 170-DOC000068-E
Craft Interface
The Local Craft terminal is an additional LAN interface. The craft is provided through a RJ-45
connector. The additional LAN interface runs a DHCP server and the port has a fixed IP address
192.168.1.1, which cannot be changed. Hence, if there is any problem with the local LAN
network, the LAN port is always available for a telnet session or accessing the WUI.
M1/F1 Interfaces
The M1/F1 interface is a serial interface using which a node can be remotely managed. The
modem interface is provisioned using the PPP. A 64 kbps data channel is created between two
nodes. The default baud rate setting is 9600 bauds with one stop bit and no parity. The F1
interface provides a RS-232C based serial interface for configuration using a local craft terminal.
The node can be remotely managed by provisioning user data channel. A 64 kbps data channel is
created between two nodes. The M1/F1 interface is multiplexed and is provided on the front
panel for node/network management through RJ-45 connector. The node is configured as the
Data-Circuit terminating Equipment (DCE) and the local craft terminal is configured as the Data
Terminating Equipment (DTE).
Orderwire Interface
The orderwire interface provides a RS-232C based serial interface for configuration using an
orderwire port. This is an operations communication channel that directly supports a two-wire
analog telephone. The orderwire interface provides a 64 kbps voice channel between two nodes.
Voice and signaling traffic is carried over E1 or E2 bytes of the SDH overhead. Orderwire
interface is terminated using RJ-45 connectors. In some variants of the OAM card, the orderwire
port is available as a RJ45 interface, but since the physical dimensions of the RJ11 and the RJ45
interfaces are similar, the two interfaces are compatible.
52
Chapter 5 OAM Card
MGN Interface
HCPOAM01 provides five MGN (Management) interfaces.
MGN1 and MGN2 interfaces are used for Multi Shelf connection. The MGN1 and MGN2 on
Master (Main) chassis can be connected to two other Slave (subtending) chassis using two RJ-45
cables. The Slave chassis in turn can connect to other slave chassis thus supporting a Linear or
Ring form of Multi Shelf arrangement.
MGN3, MGN4, and MGN5 interfaces are used for External Management Interface
Configuration from the node WUI. Among these three, any port can be used for connecting the
node to a third party amplifier such as high power OFA card.
Functional Description
The HCPOAM01 card provides static user interfaces for configuration and visual indications.
HCPOAM01 card has the following functional features:
10/100BaseT LAN interface
LAN interface LEDs (LinkStatus, PktReceive, 10/100 status)
Craft interface (V.24 Async, with M1/F1 control lines - Phy is RS232)
M1/F1 interface (V.24 Async, with M1/F1 control lines - Phy is RS232)
F1 user channel interface (64 kbps V.24 Sync, with contra-directional clock interface - Phy is
RS232) (multiplexed with the M1/F1 Interface)
Alarm LEDs (Critical, Major, and Minor)
User configurable alarm inputs
Alarm outputs for Critical, Major and Minor
Temperature monitoring
HCPOAM03
This topic describes the features and functional description of the OAM card (HCPOAM03).

Various types of PSCMs can be used with this product. In PSCM-1x2 form, it is primarily used as
client protection and as PSCM-1x5, it is used to produce 80 local add drop traffic for the
ROADM nodes. As these are purely passive units, they are housed in external 19” sub racks.

Chromatic dispersion causes the pulse broadening effect along the transmission distance, as the
group velocity of frequencies of the laser pulse is a function of the frequency. That is each
frequency in laser pulse travels with different velocity leading to pulse broadening at the receiver
end. This broadening causes the overlapping of adjacent bits at the receiver causing transmission
errors. Chromatic dispersion is measured in ps /(nm*km). Typical value for a G.652 single mode
fiber is 18 ps/(nm *km). That means a laser pulse of width 1nm broadens in time by 18 ps when
it travels 1 Km distance.
As these are purely passive units, they are housed in external 19” sub racks.
