What are eco houses?

An Eco-house is an environmentally low-impact home designed and

built using materials and technology that reduces its carbon footprints
and lowers its energy needs.

Eco houses are usually made of natural materials such as recycled

steel, bamboo, straw bale, lime or sheep wool.

Reused and recycled materials are also important if we want to build

an eco home.

Where is it located?

Home for Life is located in Lystrup, Aarhus

Municipality in western Denmark.

It is located 10 km north of Aarhus city centre.

What eco features does it have?

 Other special features
• Home for Life is designed as the world's first Active House and is the
result of an interdisciplinary development process.
• It includes a solar heat pump and a water tank.
• The interior climate is controlled by a computer, linked to a thermostat,
which opens and closes windows according to the temperature, season
and time of day.
• For eight months a year, the solar cells produce excess energy to sell to
the grid. In the winter months, the house buys back electricity from
renewable sources.
• The house has two flat-screen televisions and a washing machine, but
no tumble dryer, in order to meet an energy consumption target of
4,000 kwh per year.

 • Eco-friendly homes are all about using renewable
energy sources, being energy-efficient, and using
natural materials.
What I like • It produces less carbon dioxide (CO₂) which reduces
about eco global warming.
• Eco houses also look more attractive although we
houses cannot get all the features of normal homes since it is
designed to lower environmental impacts.
• The initial building cost could be more expensive
than conventional buildings, but it is better for the
environment.
• Therefore, in my opinion, I think people should build
more eco houses and more zero carbon cities if
possible.
