L1 Interference (also called ‘negative transfer)
L2 Interference (e.g. overgeneralisation, as in ‘I goed to work today’)
The process of learning itself, e.g.
productive vs. receptive error – some errors are caused by the students hearing wrongly. Students often have ‘relapses’ when previously conquered rules once again become areas of confusion as new rules are introduced into the system (also called ‘restructuring’)
The process of teaching itself, e.g.
controlled practice activities can put pressure on students so that they make, say, errors of word or sentence stress because they are concentrating on making a structure
Distraction, carelessness, etc
Bad teaching, e.g. teaching the wrong version of a rule
