During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of 

chairman, chief executive
officer (CEO), president and chief software architect, while also being the largest
individual shareholder until May 2014.[4] He was a major entrepreneur of
the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s.
In the period from 1996 to 2007, from 2009 to 2016 - the richest man on the
planet according to Forbes magazine . As of November 10, 2020, Bill Gates' fortune is
estimated at $119.1 billion. He is the second richest person in the
world [8] behind Amazon founder Jeff Bezos [9] .
Bill Gates is one of the world's biggest philanthropists: between 1994 and 2010, he
donated more than $28 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation [10] . In 2010,
Gates signed the Giving Pledge and made a proposal to all billionaires to donate half of
their fortunes to charity [11] .
The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, which employs more than 1,400 people worldwide, has given
more than $40 million in grants to developing countries and within the United States, according to the
Foundation’s website.

Gates has written three books:

 The Road Ahead, written with Microsoft executive Nathan Myhrvold and journalist Peter


Rinearson, was published in November 1995. It summarized the implications of the personal
computing revolution and described a future profoundly changed by the arrival of a
global information superhighway.
 Business @ the Speed of Thought was published in 1999, and discusses how business and
technology are integrated, and shows how digital infrastructures and information networks can
help to get an edge on the competition.
 How to Avoid a Climate Disaster (February 2021) presents what Gates learned in over a decade
of studying climate change and investing in innovations to address climate problems. [185]
