Welcome by Programme Lead
The Masters of Small and Medium Enterprise Management (MSMEM) aims to
build the managerial capacity of businesses in the Small and Medium
Enterprises (SEM) sector. The Small and Medium Enterprises sector is a major
contributor to GDP, employment and a key driver of wealth creation globally.
The SMEs are therefore at the heart of economic development. A core
objective of the programme is to equip existing and future entrepreneurs with
the requisite skills and competencies to strategically operate a business in a
highly competitive, globalized environment.

The MSMEM Programme has been in existence since 2012. It is geared to

Dr. Balraj Kistow developing seasoned entrepreneurs, next generation business owners and
Programme Lead - MSMEM persons in entrepreneurial start-ups from across the region. The strength and
attractiveness of this programme rest on three main selling points, these being
specially crafted courses, synchronous and asynchronous online delivery and
the practicality in assessment methods. The course offerings are crafted to
speak directly to the issues and challenges the sector.

The courses equip students to transform their businesses by training them in fundamental business principles and operational
concepts. These courses are offered wholly in the online environment, allowing for cross border interactions, networking and
sector integration. Assessment is focused on the application of the course content and concept to improving business in
practical ways thus reinforcing what was learnt.

This revised MSMEM programme is spread over four (4) trimesters for a total duration of 16 months. The only question that
now needs to be answered is – Are you up for the Challenge?

About theMSMEM Programme
99% of all companies in the Caribbean are small and medium-sized enterprises. In order to be able to act successfully in
increasingly complex business environments and the ever changing business landscape, small and medium-sized
enterprises require trained business professionals, who are able to cover the tasks as completely as possible and to
cooperate across a number of disciplines. At the same time, small and medium-sized enterprises must be provided with
entrepreneurially trained employees who will be able to either found their own companies as future entrepreneurs, or
continue to manage existing ones as qualified corporate successors.

The Master of Small and Medium Enterprise Management is

therefore targeted at offering student’s knowledge, skills and
tools, with which they can successfully start, manage and grow a
