TITLE:
Surveillance laws in India

OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT:

Surveillance means monitoring, collecting or intercepting the data of the

individual by a third party. In India a few government agencies are authorized to

intercept or supervise the data of an individual but only for the reasons provided

in the legislations governing the same.

In India the surveillance is covered under two national legislations which are-

 The Indian Telegraph Act ,1885

 Information Technology Act, 2000

Apart from the aforementioned legislations Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019

is being analysed by the Joint parliamentary committee.

In this project I will analyse the various legislations governing surveillance in

our country and also try to throw some light on the legislations in various other

countries regarding the same. I will also analyse the stand of the honourable

supreme court of India regarding the surveillance and the privacy of data of an

individual.
