As per the ethical theory of Deontology, the nurse's action should adhere to the social

expectations, role and obligations. Hence the response should e governed by the legal

requirements and ethical duty of the nurse (Barrow & Khandhar, 2020). In such a situation where

Mr Ivan Milibak has died due to a medicinal error nurse should confront the manager and

doctors on the legal and ethical principles of sharing the truth. As per the code of conduct,

medicinal errors should be reported to the family and the competent authorities as a legal

obligation and duty (Mandal, Ponnambath, & Parija,2016). It believes in one rule for all; hence

even if the family of Mr Milibak is happy pf him dying in peace, the factual scenario should be

made aware. In Deontology the act is evaluated based on the universal law where the prime

significance is given to the moral duties (Barrow & Khandhar, 2020).

Contrary to Deontology theory is the virtue ethics that gives importance to an individual's

character while evaluating ethical behaviour (Misselbrook, 2015). Hence in such situation,

before reporting anything, the character of the registered nurse and pharmacist involved in the

medicinal error should be assessed and evaluated. The individual might commit errors, hence the

multiple dimensions of human behaviour should be considered while weighing the ethical

actions (Misselbrook, 2015). Furthermore, If the staff responsible for the error is not reported

and is given a warning based on their past good work and dedication, it will motivate them to not

repeat the error again, although it will have an outcome of non-adherence to law and ethics.
