5 MODELLING OF AXIAL FLOW COMPRESSOR AND


TURBINE

Aim – To model the Axial Flow Compressor and Turbine

Commands used –

1. Sketch
2. Revolve
3. Extrude Boss
4. Circular pattern
5. Rotate

PROCEDURE:

5.a) AXIAL FLOW COMPRESSOR

1. Select the front Plane-Sketch the profile as shown in figure to create shaft. Total
shaft length is 370mm.

2. Use ‘Revolve ‘feature to convert the 2d sketch profile to 3d revolve.

3. The staging for the Compressor blades are 40mm and 140mm from the point of
origin.

4. Now, import the Compressor Airfoil and convert the entity.

5. Sketch the profile for the first and second compressor stage with new plane
height of 80mm, with a chord length of 20mm.

6. Loft the surface and twist the blade with 40degrees twisting.

7. Pattern the blades using –Circular array – 30 instances.


5.b) MODELLING OF TURBINE

1. The staging for the Turbine blades are at 300 mm from the point of origin.

2. Now, import the Turbine Airfoil and convert the entity.

3. Sketch the profile for Turbine with new plane height of 80mm, with a chord length
of 20mm.

4. Loft the surface and twist the blade with 40degrees twisting.

5. Pattern the blades using –Circular array – 30 instances.

RESULT :

Modelling of Axial flow compressor and Turbine completed using SolidWorks.

EXPT.NO.6 DRAFTING OF AXIAL FLOW COMPRESSOR AND


TURBINE

Aim – To Draft the different views of axial flow compressor and turbine
COMMANDS USED:

1. Model View
2. Detail View
3. Orientation
4. Annotation

PROCEDURE:
1. Select Drawing feature from the main menu before entering the SolidWorks
Workbench.
2. Select A4 Landscape-Browse for the file and Click on Orientation-Top View-Front
view-Isometric view.
3. After inserting all the views, Create Annotaions
4. Right click and select ‘edit sheet format. Enter the required details, with the name
Title of the experiment, name, roll number and Date.

5. Click on exit sketch workbench and save the file in Drawing (.dwg) format.

RESULT: Drafting of axial flow compressor and turbine are completed using
SolidWorks.
