Title: Assessing the Research Competence of Basic Education Teachers: A Basis for the Development of a Sustainable Research Capacity Building Program for Teachers Abstract: Research is regarded as an integral aspect of our lives. It has been a mechanism used in different fields to obtain information that are based from facts and to provide practical solutions to problems. Moreover, research has been greatly utilized in the field of education to address various concerns related to teaching and learning process and even in different aspects of the delivery of instruction. In this regard, it is a must for teachers to equip themselves with adequate mastery in concepts and skills in research. This descriptive correlational research aims to assess the research competence of teachers in the University’s Basic Education program and develop a research capacity building program for teachers. It will include all teachers of the University’s Basic Education Program which will be identified using total enumeration scheme. A standardized questionnaire will be used to assess the respondents’ research competence and will be correlated to their identified profile demographics. Furthermore, the data to be gathered from this study will undergo validation thru triangulation to establish validity and reliability of the results.
