What is a region ? On what basis are regions

defined ? All these we have studied in the ninth
standard. This year in the tenth standard let us have
a regional approach for a detailed study of our
country.
Regional approach in geographic studies is
very important. It focuses on a particular area
of the earth. It studies all physical as well as
human aspects. These interact with each other and
work in unison. They provide relative homogeneity
to the regional. Homogeneity is the foundation of
regional approach. It is a organised study of various
phenomena spatially related to each other.
Regions are identified on the basis of comman
characteristics, contiguity and similarity. For
example, physiographical regions, climatic regions,
forest regions etc. They can also be identified on
the basis of one or multiple factors. Economic
regions are based on economic factors like
industries, transportation, storage, supply,
and guidance and levels of development etc. and etc.
