There have been different time periods throughout our history that presents a broad

understanding of the Caribbean.

Our history and geography are critically important events and processes over time
that helps us identify key aspects of our past.

These time periods include:

1) Migration
2) Genocide/Oppression
3) Resistance

There are four key historical periods that we can point to:
The 4 periods are
1) The age of discovery/the encounter:
2) Colonization: This took place between 1650 and 1838
3) Emancipation/Peasantry:
4) The 21st Century
Slavery was the height of our resistance�

All four timelines throughout our history we can identify the experience of the
same pattern of activities.
Migration ->Forced into systems of labour-> they resisted

Terms to know:

Migration:The movement of people from one place to another into the region or
within the region.
Indentured labour: These were people that came from India to work in the region
between�between 1845 and 1917.
