●TLC ( Total Leukocytes Count )
Normal = 4000-10000 cells/mm 3 Humam Hamada Muslih
In case of infection = >10000 cells/mm 3
Osteomyelitis Periostitis
●DLC ( Differential Leukocyte Count)
Normal Neutrophil = 80%
In case of infection = >80% Features:
►Bacteriological Investigation ● Natural habitat:-Nostril and skin
Specimens: - Pus: from wound or abscess Follculitis Carbuncle ● Gram-positive
or burns ● cocci, 0.5-1.5um in diameter
●Nasal Swab: from suspected carrier ● Form irregular grapelike clusters
●Food: to diagnose staphylococcal ● Non-motile, non- sporing
intoxication ● Few strains are capsulated
●Blood: to diagnose endocarditis and Furuncle Impetigo
bacteremia Culture :
●Sputum: to diagnose lower respiratory ● on Mannitol sult agar
tract infection
►Culture and isolation
Staphylococcus aureus ● Resist drying heat9% NaCl
● Opt. Temp. For growth= 37°C
►Tube coagulase test ● Opt. pH for growth= 7.5
● Pigment 25 C On Nutrient agar
● Golden yellow

►S. aureus sensitive to vancomycin if :

● Phosphotase •Resistance more 16 micrgram/ml
● Protease ►Resist to tetracycline and erthromycin
