I DON'T WANT TO LIGHT ANOTHER CANDLE ANYMORE

Ew, you look gross.Fat!Horrible.Look at those legs.Your outfit doesnt match you.Disgusting.I
hate your face. You dont belong here.Where did she come from anyway?man, you should
shaveWhatever you do, you will never look pretty.Whatever you do, you will never be enough.I bet you
saw this before. Where? Social media platforms such as Discord, WhatsApp, Viber, YouTube, FaceTime,
Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat; I lost count. In todays society, the first thing a person checks
when he wakes up is his phone, ruight? To check what you missed while you are asleep—to see who
tweeted, changed her profile picture, shared a witty meme, or see who are arguing online, and to gossip
about the latest tea in the community.
Lampa!Bellow amateurPabuhat ka lang naman tas ang yabang yabang mo pa.Gago, bobo,
letche!Mga di alam maglaroBugokInutil, walang kwenta!Tanga Supot!I know, almost everyone relates to
this. I hear this everywhere I go. Let us all say: this is how men play online games. Sadly, this has become
normal and its very alarming. I can imagine my younger brother streaming a game.
Living in this generation surely requires internet and gadgets, and undeniably, social media
platforms are now part of one's whole-being. Posting whatever you feel happy about will eventually not
make everyone happy. Because there will always be the haters; the bashers; the insecure people; the
judgemental ones; and those with crab mentality.
As a result of this pandemic, coping up with cyberbullying just became worse. As you know by
now, the pressure of online classes and tons of modules and tasks in your google classrooms along with
the burden of being cyberbullied, what else could be worse than that? (This pandemic has given us a lot
of adjustments in every aspect, especially our time management. I, too, have difficulties managing my
time. The household chores, my me-time, my school requirements, my outdoor life, my fading hobbies…
imagine if i am also a victim of cyberbullying? How will I live then?)
Cyberbullying is a worldwide problem that is growing FAST. It is more harmful than traditional
bullying. It is done by online harassment, invading privacy, shaming or humiliating somebody, sending
threats, insulting or bashing; these are some of the real-world things we must notice to fix. According to
Kaspersky, there are 10 forms of cyberbullying namely: exclusion, harassment, outing, cyber stalking,
fraping, fake profile, dissing, tricking, trolling, and catfishing. These are crimes targeting children and
teenagers.
And the root question is WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? Bullies are often driven by frustration, anger,
and revenge. Some are misled by their family or had been through a rough childhood, lets just say they
have family problems. Sometimes they do it for entertainment or because they are bored and have too
much time on their hands. Many do it for laughs, or just to get a reaction to feed their own pleasures.
Online world is truly draining. It drains the life out of you. Cyberbullying can inflict long lasting
wounds to an individual, either physical or psychological, even when the bullying has stopped.. Your
spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health is at stake. The trauma it gives causes distress that
affects an individuals self-esteem which has a detrimental effect on one's mental health being. These
cyberbullying effects can result to enduring feelings of humiliation. In the worst cases, leading to self-
harm and suicide.
4,500 people commit suicide every year due to cyberbulying. According to studies by Yale
University, bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to be considered suicides than non-victims.
A study in Britain found at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying, 10 to 14
years old girls may be at even higher risk for suicide.
The end game? Students who get bullied get depression and anxiety, increasing feelings of
sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns. Students who bullied others engage in
early sexual activity. They get into fights and vandalized property, and drop out school. Students who
witnessed (WHAT DO YOU MEAN HERE BASANG? Witnessed?) increased use of tobacco, alcohol, or
other similar substances.
Let us treat bullying as if it is COVID-19. It is everywhere. Let us spread awareness. Put a stop for
common good. Let us end this stigma. Let us change for the better. Lets change the number of suicides
to zero cause I don't want to light another candle anymore.
Enliven Michael Jacksons song: THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING. IF YOU CARE ENOUGH FOR THE
LIVING, MAKE A BETTER PLACE FOR YOU AND FOR ME.
