2. EDUCATION
 BE (Electronics) from Bangalore University
 ME (Electronics) from BITS Pilani-(Raj))
 Ph. D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Kansas (KU),
Lawrence, Ks, USA.

3. SOME HIGHLIGHTS
 JOINED ISRO, Ahmedabad, as Microwave Engineer/Scientist in 1972 and
worked on microwave hardware and subsystems for spaceborne systems
 LEAD MEMBER in developing the first Indian remote sensing payloads on
Bhaskara-1 and -2 satellites
 ANTARCTIC RADAR PROJECT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS, USA
Joined the University of Kansas, Lawrence in 1985, on study leave from ISRO,
as a graduate student, and obtained Ph. D degree in 1989 in radar remote
sensing. Developed and successfully operated an airborne and truck-operated
Coherent Antarctic Radar Depth Sounder (CARDS), synthetic aperture radar
(SAR), for ice-probing in Antarctica. Was deputed by the University / NSF to
Antarctica and the South Pole for two seasons during which the radar was
field-tested. [Lecture Topic].

4. Project Director - Megha-Tropiques Climate satellite – 1998 - 2012. Under the


ISRO-CNES (INDO-FRENCH) collaboration.

5. HONOURS and AWARDS


i. J. Das Gupta Gold medal 1981, for “The best paper on meteorological
instrumentation”, by the Indian Meteorological Society.
ii. Certificate for “Setting foot on the Amundsen-Scott South Pole”,
awarded by US Antarctic Research Program, 1986.
iii. Certificate on completion of Snow-craft / Survival School on Ross Island,
Antarctica, by the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program and US
Antarctic Research Program, 1987.
iv. Antarctica Service medal by US Navy, in 1988, and US-NSF Antarctica
Service Medal “In recognition of valuable contributions to exploration
and scientific achievements”.
v. ISRO Team Excellence Award 2011 for the Megha-Tropiques Satellite
Project, also as Team Leader.
vi. Delivered lectures; key note speeches, chief guest; session chairman, etc.
in more than 40 academic events. Published/presented more 100+ papers.

6. CURRENT ACTIVITIES: Since April 2013 Till Date


 Professor: Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), School of
Engineering and Technology (SET), and International Institute of Aerospace
Engineering and Management (IIAEM) JAIN UNIVERSITY.
 Responsible in getting 3 NavIC receivers and 5 projects from ISRO to the
University.
 Project on NASA-ISRO SAR (NISAR)
 PH. D. GUIDE: Guiding 8 PhD’s [3 completed] of Jain University (3 have
completed) on subjects:
 Climate change
 Disaster monitoring
 Navigation systems and space weather (GNSS – NAVIC)
 Spaceborne radar calibration
