Technical guide for the configuration of ELENOS Indium Transmitter

with RDS integrated

The new Indium transmitter that you have received in these days, has an RDS coder already programmed
with the alternative frequencies relative to the system to which it was assigned.

Each audio transmitter is supplied with an audio connection jumper that must be connected between the
AES / EBU input (Cannon) and the AUX1 input (BNC). Instead, in the MPX input the audio coming from the
Sat Receiver (LEFT) must be connected, which will no longer have to pass from the external RDS coder
Sistel as in the past.
The RDS Sistel must be kept in a disconnected position, it will act as a reserve in case the TX with integrated
RDS fails.

Detail of RDS coder connections “on board”

Assuming that the RDS coder on board the device breaks, it is necessary to disconnect the BNC / Cannon
jumper and reconnect the RDS Sistel coder as in the past, so the audio coming from the Sat Receiver (LEFT)
will be connected to the external RDS and the external RDS output will be connected to the transmitter
MPX input.

RDS coder configuration for new ELENOS Indium Transmitter

If it is necessary to modify or set the RDS parameters of the transmitter instead, follow the procedures
below.

You can find the software that allows you to manage the RDS at the web address:

https://pira.cz/rds/TinyRDS_Setup.exe

To connect the RDS module of the transmitter to your PC it is necessary to connect the serial interface to
the RS232 RDS input located on the back of the transmitter.

Detail of the RS232 RDS input

Once you have downloaded the .exe file and installed it on your PC, you can start the TinyRDS software.

Under the Hardware pulldown menu it is necessary to select in the Hardware Type window the MicroRDS
entry, select the COM port with which you are making the connection, and clicking on the Update button
you should establish the connection: if the connection is successful in the Status window appears
“Connected”.
In the Program pulldown menu it is possible to enter all the parameters related to the RDS function, as well
as being able to insert in the Alternative Frequencies window all the alternative frequencies of the radio
station, of which the first on the list will be the main transmitter.

Finally in the Radiotext pulldown it is necessary to enable the function by checking the Enabled option and
insert the two messages that must be alternated as per standard:

- “Una voce cristiana nella tua casa”, then 17 spaces and the code relating to the transmitting site
written upside down without the letters "SK" (es. Sk 411 becomes 0114)

Finally, in the Options window, select the option Send next RT after (and set 0.5 min as the default time)
and Toggle RT type automatically.

Once the setting is complete, clicking the Send button on the right will send the configuration to the RDS
module.

To check the configuration of an integrated RDS module, just establish the connection as shown above and
press the Read button: the program will extract all the settings on the RDS card in the TinyRDS interface.
