OBJECTIVES
● Students will be able to define and perform the definition of audiation, beat and rhythm
● Students will be able to perform the snowball song with correct rhythm and pitches

PROCEDURES
1) Welcome Song
2) “Let’s play a game. In order to play it though we have to use a song we already know…”
-Head Shoulders Knees and Toes
3) ‘Even though we didn’t say ‘toes’ did you think it in your head?’ Lead to Audiation : to
hear and process music in our head
4) Try audiating the Welcome Song “Let’s Begin, Come on in, It’s for everyone”
5) Talk about snow and introduce snowball sirens activity to warm up
6) Have them keep beat and introduce snowball song
7) T. “The beat! The beat always stays the same, it never changes, it is so boring!”
8) Teach song by rote
9) Stand up! March, put beat in feet and sing it(X2)
10) Sing it and clap syllables (X2)
11) The rhythm “rhythm changes, It matches the words just like a syllable”
12) Magic remote game stomp beat vs clap rhythm
13) Make a circle in room march the beat and sing the song
a) Break down beat and rhythm one at a time
14) Toes towards center, clap rhythm sing song
15) Instead of clapping can we use rhythm sticks to do rhythm?

● Students will be able to accurately perform by clapping and stomping quarter notes and
eighth notes to music

Week 2:
1) Welcome Song
a) Review Audiation Definition
2) Audiation Game
a) Form circle; Practice Audiation with drum 1-2-3-4
- S. count to 4 “`1,2,3,4” while T. keeps steady beat
- “Let’s audiate 4” Create action to do for 4
- Practice that then audiate 2 and 4
3) Review Snowball Song
a) Vocal Warmup
b) S. sing Snowball Song
i) Keep Beat (review definition)
ii) Clap Rhythm (review definition)
4) Beat/Rhythm Trace Slide
a) T. ‘What do the hearts represent?’ S. ‘The beat’ (review definition)
b) S. Sing song while patting beat
c) T. Show 1 snowball ‘What do you think snowballs will represent?’ S. ‘Rhythm”
(review definition) T. Click snowballs as students clap and sing along
d) T. ‘What do you notice?’ S. Some have 1 vs two snowballs
e) ‘I’m going to change the snowballs but I want to still sing and clap the rhythm
5) Quarter Note and Eighth Note
a) T. “We changed the snowballs to notes. What do you notice looks the same
between the two?’ (2 heads =2 snowballs ect)
b) Introduce Ta and Tadi
i) “These are nicknames and they are actually called quarter note and 2
eighth note. But we are going to call them Ta and Tadi”
ii) T *show slide 6* “Lets keep the beat and say Ta 4 times”
iii) Keep the beat and say Tadi 4 times
iv) “Now I am going to point to the heart and I want you to say what I point to”
(1) T. repeats in patterns of 8 then 4
6) Brain Break/Movement
a) S. *stand up*
b) T. “I am going to play a song and we will either clap quarter notes or 2 eighth
notes. Watch where I point to know what we are doing. We will also change from
clapping, to maybe stomping, to maybe, patting, you gotta watch and listen to
what I do to know”

b) Split class up and sing it again (half does beat other half does rhythm/switch)
4) Movement Activity
a) Review 1 sound vs 2
b) Practice Ta and Tadi
c) Move around room to song doing Ta and tadi (same as last week different song)
5) Poison Game
a) Echo back 4 patterns
b) Then show patterns on screen echoing them back together
c) Play poison game with (Ta tadi)
6) Notation
a) Show notation for 1st half of snowball song and clap/sing it out
b) work through second half together
c) Sing song on takadimi

● Students will be able to perform the snowball song with correct rhythm and pitches
● Students will be able to read quarter note and eighth notes and decode the Snowball
song

Procedures

1) Welcome Song
2) Sing Snowball Song
a) Stomp beat (review definition)
b) Clap rhythm (review definition)
c) Read notation on screen on tadi
3) Assessment (only for Thursday)
a) Pass out paper and pencil while telling students to write name on paper and wait
for further instructions
b) Read each question one by one

4) Drums
a) Show class how they will hold drums
b) Pass out drums while asking their favorite type of cereal
c) Have everyone play once everyone has a drum…tools vs toys
5) Cereal Song
a) MW MA using cereal brands student suggested play on drums have S. echo
b) T. “Put drums face down in front of you, should look like a bowl again’

Week 2 start → February 14th → 1 sound vs 2; tap beat and label point it out (paper plate)
Week 3 start → February 21st→ transition 1 and 2 to Ta and tadi and practice decode (paper
plate)
Week 4 start → February 28th → assess

Sponge: Body Percussion

-Make a circle and do steady beat and rhythm with a song then number 1 and 2 and do smaller
circle one doing beat and other doing rhythm
