Florence Nightingale (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910)
was an English social reformer, statistician and the
founder of modern nursing. Nightingale came to
prominence while serving as a trainer of nurses during
the Crimean War, in which she organised care for
wounded soldiers. 

When Nightingale approached her parents and told them

about her ambitions to become a nurse, they were not
pleased
She gave nursing a favourable reputation and became an
icon of Victorian culture, especially in the persona of
"The Lady with the Lamp" making rounds of wounded
soldiers at night. 
In 1860, she made the foundation of professional nursing
with the establishment of her nursing school at St
Thomas' Hospital in London. It was the first laical
nursing school in the world, and is now part of King's
College London.
Nightingale was a prodigious and versatile writer too.

El texto habla de Florence Nigthingale y dice que fue una gran reformadora social
y la fundadora de la enfermería moderna.
Nigthingale se volvió reconocida mientras entrenaba enfermeras durante la guerra
de Crimea, y ella organizaba los cuidados para los soldados heridos.
Cuando Nigthingale se acercó a sus padres y les dijo de sus ambiciones de ser
enfermera, ellos no estuvieron muy contentos .Ella le dio a la enfermería una muy
buena reputación convirtiéndose en un icono de la cultura victoriana,
especialmente en la novela La Señora de la Lámpara, haciendo rondas entre los
soldados heridos en la noche.
En 1860 ella hizo las bases de la enfermeria profesional con la fundación de su
escuela de enfermería en el hospital de St Thomas en Londres. Fue la primera
escuela de enfermería laica del mundo y ahora es parte del Colegio Real de
Londres.
