QUY TẮC TRỌNG ÂM ( CHỈ ĐÚNG 90%,

CÓ RẤT NHIỀU NGOẠI LỆ)
Quy tắc 1: Noun 2, 3 âm tiết thì nhấn vào âm 1

Ex: Smartphone, action, layer, lawyer, market

Ex: company, mineral, scientist, carpenter

Quy tắc 2: Verb 2, 3 âm tiết thì nhấn vào âm 2

Ex: complete, decide, enrich, escape, explore, complain, continue

Ex: determine, examine, discover, distinguish

Quy tắc 3: Trọng âm rơi vào trước các âm sau:

ic, ical, ion, ious, ual, ior, ity, graphy, ial

Ex: economic, geography, minority, contractual, biography = profile / biology

Quy tắc 4: Trọng âm rơi vào chính âm đấy:

ee, oo, ese, mental, ain, eer, ology

Ex: referee, bamboo, Vietnamese, environmental, mountaineer, biology, contain,

entertain, maintain

Quy tắc 5: Trọng âm rơi vào âm thứ 3 từ dưới lên:

Khi từ vựng đó kết thúc là đuôi : ous, ate, ise, ize, y( khi chữ y được đọc là

Quy tắc 6: Tiền tố và hậu tố không ảnh hưởng đến trọng âm của từ : ful,
ment, ly, ish, able, ed, ing, un, in, dis, ness, res, er, or, ible, able

Quy tắc 7 : a+ 1 từ nữa thì sẽ có trọng âm 2

Quy tắc 8: Những từ mà được phát âm là các âm ngắn như ừn, ơ: /ə/ thì sẽ
không bao giờ nhận trọng âm. Trọng âm sẽ nhấn vào âm dài: i:, u:, ɜː
