The interview begins with a small or friendly conversation to make the patient feel comfortable
enough to say what he or she wants to say.
In order for the patient to understand the interviewer, the interviewer asks simple questions so
that the patient can describe every detail of his symptoms.
3. What are some ways the interviewer solicited clarification on answers that were unclear?
The nurse must use open-ended questions to elicit details from the patient when encouraging
him or her to elaborate on details of his or her history. When gathering information about the
current problem, the patient must describe the symptoms that prompted him or her to seek
assistance.
5. When does the interviewer follow- up interview questions with probing questions?
When the interviewer noticed that the patient was having difficulty saying what he wanted to
say, he used a probing question to encourage the patient to tell.
6. What could the interviewer have done to improve the quality of information he received?
When the interviewer questions the patient, he should listen attentively, make eye contact, and
ask simple questions, repeating the information and summarizing every detail to the patient to
clarify if the information he received is correct.
