Leste Development Partners’ Meeting. The

The 54th ASEAN Day Celebration


𝟵 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭 – Five resident ASEAN Missions in Timor-Leste namely
Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand jointly hosted the
flag hoisting ceremony in Commemoration of the 54th Anniversary of the
Founding of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the
ground of the Indonesian Embassy in Timor-Leste. H.E. Adaljiza Magno,
Minister of Foreign Affairs & Cooperation of Timor-Leste graced the
ceremony as the Guest of Honour and the event was attended by the
representatives of ASEAN Partners. Since its founding in 1967, ASEAN has
grown into a vibrant and increasingly integrated economic region, stronger
socio-cultural community, and plays a significant role in the regional
political-security front.

30 November 2021 – Ms. Nur Hidayah Mohd, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. received Mr. Hugo Maria
Fernandes, Executive Director of Centro Nacional Chega! I.P. and Mr. Gaudencio Soares Souza,
Director of External Relation, Communication and Advocacy at the Embassy of Malaysia in Dili, Timor-
Leste. During the meeting, both sides discussed the potential bilateral and multilateral cooperation in
the future. Centro Chega! is a Government institution established under the decree-law no. 48/2016
in which its mandate includes promoting and monitoring the implementation of the Commission for
Reception, Truth and Reconciliation of East Timor (CAVR) as well as guaranteeing preservation of
memory and history of Timor-Leste. Chega! also contributes to civic education, training, and
methodology of teaching Timor-Leste’s history within the time span of 1974-1999.

Commemoration of the 46th Anniversary


of Proclamation of Independence Day of
the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste,

28 November 2021 – It was a great honour that the
Embassy of Malaysia joined other diplomatic
missions resident in Timor-Leste to participate in
the Commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the
Proclamation of Independence Day of the
Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. This year the
official National Flag Hoisting ceremony was held
in the Municipality of Baucau. The ceremony was
attended by H.E. Dr Francisco Guterres Lú Olo,
President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-
Leste, Prime Minister and members of the
Government, diplomatic corps, veterans and
community of Baucau.

2021 KOREAN KIMCHI COOKING CLASS

2 December 2021 – The Embassy of Malaysia joined other diplomatic missions resident in Timor-Leste to
participate in the 2021 Korean Kimchi Cooking Class hosted by H.E Mr. Kim Jeong-ho, Ambassador of the
Republic of Korea in Timor-Leste. The event was also attended by Madam Isabel da Costa Ferreira, spouse
of the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste.

Ceremony of Attribution of “Sérgio Vieira other diplomatic missions resident in Timor-Leste to
De Mello” Human Rights Awards participate in the Ceremony of Sérgio Vieira de Mello

Human Rights Awards, 14th edition, 2021. His Excellency


President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo
presented the Award to four promoters and defenders
of human rights in Timor-Leste. The Award was
initiated by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former
President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta since 2008.
It has been attributed to citizens, governmental, non-
governmental organizations or foreign citizens who
carried out their duties in promoting, protecting and
unveiling Human Rights in Timor-Leste. Sérgio Vieira
de Mello was a Brazilian United Nations Diplomat who
served as East Timor UN Transitional Administrator
from 25 October 1999 – 20 May 2002.
