ESSAY FOR CKV
This year of CKV has brought me to the point where I can look back and say what I have
done and write a paper about it and evaluate this year. We have been to many cultural things
and we had to write reports about all of them. We had a lot of practical assignments in this
class, but let us start at the beginning. Our first and last year of CKV

The first report I had made was about the move resident evil. I liked it a lot and that made it a
lot easier to write about. The eight reports we had to write were all in the same area; culture.
This report had to be a review about what my thoughts were about the movie and I had to be
as objective as possible. The same counts for all the other reports I had made. There were
many reports that followed after that one and I going to pick a few out.

I had made a report about a TV show named” How I met your mother” It is a sitcom about 5
friends who live in the city of New York. The main character Ted is telling his children how
he met their mother “in excruciating detail.” As I quote the children. The time I had put into
this report was immense, because I wanted it to be as good as possible. The reason for this
was that it is one of my favourite TV shows of all time and I never wanted to ruin a good
thing.

Cosima von Bonin was an obligatory report. It was about an artist who didn’t made things
herself and the idea that she had wasn’t even completely from her, but it was someone who
took all those things and had put it together. She had chosen fairy tales and people to make the
stuffed animals or platforms that she used in her exhibition. This kind of art is called
contemporary art. The underlying thought behind contemporary art is that the idea behind it is
more important than the outcome.

To completely overthrow the basic idea of art, I choose to make a report about Karl Lagerfeld
who is a fashion designer. I may not be seen as art, but it is the expression of one’s thoughts
and feelings. And that is what the definition of art is. I was inspired by my actual art class. We
had to give a presentation about artists/architecture/fashion designers and I had chosen the last
one. To keep it simple I thought that if I was already diving in to the subject I might as well
use that knowledge for CKV

A concert that I have visited was the one from Flying Lotus and it was so good that I had
decided to make a report about it. It is a DJ who makes futuristic and electronic music that is
known by as many people that don’t know who he is. This was the only report about music
when music is such a huge part of today’s world. The numerous TV channels and radio
stations make it a part of everyone his or her life.

Tumblr which is a blogging site was one of the last reports I had made. I had chosen that
subject because I do it a lot and that way it became easier to write about it. The closer the
subject the easier it becomes to write about it. There was so much to tell about it that I had to
cut it short. It would otherwise become a factual report about a site instead of a review.

The last report I had to make was about the “foto museum Rotterdam, Las Palmas”. We
visited the exhibition could Angry, the young and radical. It was something we did with the
whole class. The exhibition showed the different forms of radicalism and showed many forms
of art. Not only photographs, but also movies, web based art, photo compilations and many
more forms. Eventually when the tour was over, we had to shoot our own pictures showing
our radical statement.

Not only reports, but also practical assignments had to be made. One of the practical
assignments was making a poster, movie or other form of art about something. Lisanne and I
worked together and we made a poster about a musical. Hangover the musical, which isn’t
really a musical but we pretended that it was a musical. It took approximately nine lessons to
make, but it the end result was worth every minute we spend on it.

We had a lot of lessons to work on our reports and small practical assignments. CKV is meant
to teach children more about art? Well it did teach me more, but I do have some remarks. It
felt like our personal opinion could be something that made our grade lower in our reports.
Not that it wasn’t constructed well, but that our negativity towards art was something that
made it less appealing. The internet blog was something that should have been used in a
different way. To put everything on your blog what you do is almost impossible, because not
lesson gave us the opportunity to go on the computer and not every lesson gave us something
to write about. Maybe the blog should be strictly for our reports and if there has to be
something up there the teacher has to say so. I also think that CKV isn’t really appealing for
15/16 year olds who want to do everything to undermine the system (which in this case is the
school). The assignments should be directed to our age group and a little more to our interests.
Of course we have to learn about art, but if you want to reach teenagers you have to find
something that learns them something, but also keeps their attention and enthusiasm there.
Especially when the course involves something cultural
