8 Draw a pair of tangents to a circle of radius 5 cm which are inclined to each other at 3

9 A cylindrical bucket, 32 cm high and with radius of base 18 cm, is filled with sand. 3
This bucket is emptied on the ground and a conical heap of sand is formed. If the
height of the conical heap is 24 cm, find the radius and slant height of the heap.
10 The person standing on the bank of river observes that the angle of elevation of the 3
top of a tree standing on opposite bank is 600. When he moves 30 m away from the
bank, he finds the angle of elevation to be 300. Find the height of tree and width of
the river.

The angle of depression of two ships from an aeroplane flying at the height of 7500
m are 300 and 450. If both the ships are in the same that one ship is exactly behind
the other, find the distance between the ships.

11 In Figure the radius of incircle of ▲ABC of area 84 cm2 and the lengths of the 4
segments AP and BP into which side AB is divided by the point of contact are 6 cm
and 8 cm Find the lengths of the sides AC and BC.

12 A vessel is in the form of a hemispherical bowl surmounted by a hollow cylinder of 4


same diameter. The diameter of the hemispherical bowl is 14 cm and the total height
of the vessel is 13 cm. Find the total surface area of the vessel. (π =22/7)

From his hotel room window on the fourth floor, Ranjan notices some window
washers high above him on the hotel across the street. Curious as to their height
above ground, he quickly estimates the buildings are 60 m apart, the angle of
elevation to the workers is about 60c, and the angle of depression to the base of the
hotel is about 300.

Case Study -2
1 Your elder brother wants to buy a car and plans to take a loan from a bank for his 2
4 car. He repays his total loan of Rs. 1,18,000 by paying every month starting with the
first instalment of Rs. 1000. If he increases the instalment by Rs. 100 every month,
answer the following:

a) What amount still he does have to pay after the 30th instalment?

b) If the total instalments are 40 then what will be the amount paid in the last 2
instalment ?
